Health issues

You know that I have had some minor health issues since I started My Dorm development, and I have tried not to let them affect publication times. I have never understood developers who use health problems as an excuse to delay. You should be writing and/or rendering if you're not dying!

This time the problem is less minor. I have been found to have a huge thrombosis (or one big one and several small ones) in my left leg. I thought I had screwed up some tendon in my ankle, but no, it was one of the thrombi moving around.

Yesterday I spent the afternoon and part of the evening going from one doctor to another and ended up in the hospital. An afternoon of development lost. I've been told I have to rest, keep my feet above my hips, walk an hour a day (which contradicts the rest), blah, blah, blah, blah. And I've been prescribed medication for (at minimum) the next three months. Injections that I have to give myself every day around my belly button. I'm going to end up with 93 holes in my belly!

As always, I'm going to try not to let development suffer, but this typing with my feet up is very uncomfortable. I'm not as flexible as our girls!

Just kidding. It shouldn't affect development too much, except that the daily hour of walking will have to come (partially) out of development time, and because of yesterday's missed afternoon.

On the other hand, I'm waiting to see if I get medical leave, am forced to do home office, or have to go back to the office. Any of the first two options would make up for the hour of walking, since the time saved in commuting could be used to develop the game.

v.0.12 continues at a good pace and, even with the wasted afternoon, I still aim to publish it around the 20th.

Status update December 15th

Status report about my blood/thrombi/leg issues:

The risk of sudden death has become "low to very low" (from September "high-moderate" and November "moderate-low").

I forced a bit and tried to return to the office a couple of days/week three weeks ago, so I will return to work from home all week for (at least) the next month.

The pain in the leg won't disappear in the foreseeable future. Once the clog dissolves completely, it can take some months to disappear (there are chances that some form of post-thrombotic syndrome remains and I had chronic pain forever).

The vein was too stretched by the clog and I'm not young anymore. They changed my meds to more long-term sustainable drugs (basically, for life) once the shock treatment max time had been reached.

Comments

First and foremost, God Bless! I echo what has been said, about you 1st, game 2nd. .... much good medical info already shared with you. Allow me to add some points: (i) If you are not aware, the medications that you are prescribed can cause increase risk of bleeding and more severe bleeding that is difficult to stop. Be extra careful to avoid not only cuts, but also bumps (esp. head bumps or injury) and bruising (internal bleed below skin) which can be more severe and problematic. Seek medical attention for both, also don't be dismissive of dizziness, weakness or vison changes; (ii) "sitting" in one place more than an hour is your enemy (and obviously, working on the game can easily involve that). In addition to getting-up and walking for 5-10 minutes every 1-2 hours, also add at least one of the following non-stress exercises:

A great story is always worth the wait. Take care of yourself. I am not going anywhere. Thanks for all you do Trop

Damn, this really sucks. I'm glad it seems manageable & it's pretty heart warming to see the love & support coming from the community. As you can see, all of us here want you to put your own health/wellbeing first. I'm sure none of us will have any issue if you ever need to pause things & take time to get yourself right. Side note, it sounds like the medication they have you on is very similar to what they have my GF on (she's high risk of blood clots during pregnancy) & if so you should be prepared for a lot of bruising around your belly. Hers is almost all purple from the injections right now.

YOU Lucky Guy and Gal. May you have many more years of Happiness ahead of you

I just read the wiki article on Acenocoumarol and you are right, it's a derivative of Coumarin. Don't worry, I will post any news here 😉

Tropecita Games

I believe the Acenocoumarol IS the Coumadin I mentioned ... just another name. It's what I would have prescribed for long term. It's a scary thing, but it is manageable. Just keep me informed, brother, of any new goings-ons.

Friend Of David

Thanks, my Friend. My P.E. almost killed me in 2006. I was intubated for several weeks in the hospital struggling between life and death. My lungs decided for life. Good lungs. 😉 I have Protein C deficiency and Prothrombin mutation. My mother has Factor V Leiden (diagnosed after my P.E. when they did a genetical study in the family), so we've been battling with thrombosis for a while. We have a hematologist in the family, although he works in another region of Spain so we cannot be derived to him, who told us all the risks and the possible solutions. About the compresive socks, I just ordered them in the pharmacy today after taking the measures of ancle, calf, and knee this morning. They arrive this afternoon. I have Heparin for the next 30 days, and I have a visit with the vascular surgeon and the hematologist on September 28th so they can check if I continue the treatment with it or they switch to another thing. They already told me I will go with Acenocoumarol (known as Simtron here in Spain) for the rest of my life after the second thrombosis episode. But thanks anyway for your advice! I will keep you informed if there is any news. No news are good news (if I continue posting it means that I'm still alive 😊)

Brother, I am a retired Physician's Assistant (Yes, I could prescribe medication, so I was one step below a doctor). Thrombi are no laughing matter. They can travel to your heart and become what is known as a P.E., or a pulmonary embolism. P.E.s can kill you, bro! I just looked up and noticed you had already written something about this, so anyway, you are aware of the gravity of the situation. Have they given you compression socks also, in addition to the blood thinners. Also, they like to go back and forth between thinners, so don't be surprised if they switch you to Coumadin from Heparin and back and forth at some point. They are both excellent. If your legs are heavy, you may want to cut back on salt to relieve any sort of water retention that could be causing restriction on the vessels in your lower extremities. There are other things I could tell you to help you on this little journey. I was a Physician's Assistant, so if you ever have questions, I will always be straight with you. A LOT of doctors, and I mean a LOT, will never tell you the whole truth. I tell you everything and anything you want to know, bro! Troy

Friend Of David

Thanks! I will put all my willpower and energy into getting better. The girls are waiting for me to tell their story.

Tropecita Games

Earnestly wishing for your speedy recovery! Hope you find renewed vigor every day!

Deadpool

She already knows she's the best thing that happened to me! And she knows how much I love her. She helps with the game reading the script, offering ideas, and even suggesting small scenes. I couldn't do the game without her support. We have been in a honeymoon for the last 22 years!

Tropecita Games

Thanks! Once the problem has been diagonsed and talked to my company about it, I got to do home office for a few weeks, so the time I lose with some things I win it saving in commuting time. I think the update schedule won't be affected.

Tropecita Games

Wow! Thanks for the medical advice! It's evident you know what you are talking about. I was already diagnosed with Protein C deficiency in 2006 when I had another thrombosis which ended in a pulmonary embolism. For the time being, I will be treated with heparin (injection) as it's the staple anticoagulant here in Spain to treat emergency coagulation issues. When I finish the 3 months treatment, I will go with Acenocoumarol orally. I was on treatment with it for over a year after my embolism, so this time it will be a forever thing.

Tropecita Games

Make sure you do the activity. A lot of times the lower extremity thrombosis occurs because of decreased activity (often in the setting of a car ride or flight). The veins in the lower leg require contraction of the muscles around them to efficiently pump blood. If you get up and just walk around for even 5-10 minutes every hour or two that should reduce your risk for further clots. But, you might want to get checked for any issues that would predispose you to clotting, like Factor V Leiden, Protein C/S deficiency, Prothrombin mutation, or Antithrombin III deficiency. Also, you should ask about Xarelto (Rivaroxaban) or Eliquis (Apixaban) to treat this instead of daily injections as these are oral medications.

Your health is the most important thing. If things need to slow down a bit, so be it.

Blacklabyrinth

Thanks, Jefe. I don't think it will come to a big delay. If I am able to break the writer's block in a scene, the update is on pace for even an earlier release. To write lewd scenes you should be in a mood that I haven't been for some days, so I advanced the writing of the rest of the scenes. And there is still another lewd scene to write around the corner!

Tropecita Games

Get well soon Trop. Perhaps there can be a side story, like the vacation, where some of the girls "assist" with the recovery of a "long lost relative"! Just kidding! We know you're good for the updates and if they are a day/week/month late then so be it.

JeffersonSound (El Jefe)

Hey Do not Mock the Wife. She can do things for you that Can make your Life So much better or worse, Be lucky that Your Wife Loves & cares for you. If you Have another PC, Maybe the Wife Can help you with the Game, or More help. As shes doing that Just think of the things that Having a Good Partner can do. Kiss her and Show Affection to her. ( I'm not saying Make out with her, just Make her a Dinner one night, Order her some sexy cloths She wants, complement her. Be a Good Partner to her as she is to You, You may find Just how much She Loves you, and she may find out how much you love her!!)

Tor Cha

Thanks. I won't become the first ghost dev in history! It looks like the docs have it under control.

Tropecita Games

Thanks, but don't worry. It will be a long process (3 months at least) and the girls want to be there to make me company. My idea is to not delay the game. I owe it to the girls, to you, and to myself.

Tropecita Games

Thanks, but don't worry. After talking with the family doc she has told me I can do home office for at least the next 4 weeks. If I can work for my company, I can work on the game 😁 She told me how I should sit, what rests I should take, etc. And my wife was there, so I would have a Jiminy Cricket telling me what to do for the next months!

Tropecita Games

Well, thou shalt not hide behynde your illness - but thou also shalt not work thyself to death!

Arnim Sommer

As much as I love your girls, I'd much prefer a healthy you. Please don't feel like you owe us, because you have proven your detection to you work on this AVN and to us fans. We are more then willing to wait for you to be healthier. Please take care of yourself and get well soon.

madmanskingdom72

Guy you are More Important than the Game. Get healthy then worry about the Game. I would rather miss the Game for a Few Months than Have you die and miss the Game forever. Please worry about your Health first the Game 3 or 5. After all You also need to worry about your Job!

Tor Cha

Don't worry, health first. Dead devs don't develop at all 😉

Tropecita Games

If you don’t put your own health and safety first before the game, I will be super pissed! Take care of yourself, we will wait!
