Here's our newest map set with three new maps!
The first map is Jungle River, a long river that winds through a sparse jungle environment. There are several points of interest spread throughout the map that provide opportunities to insert some adventure interactions. The outpost to the southwest can provide story hooks as well as a chance to spend some coin on supplies or new gear. The northern indigenous villagers know a lot about the surrounding jungle and can be friend or foe to trespassers. The southern temple can have traps or possibly worshippers/guardians trying to hold those who would do harm at bay. To the east is a giant horned serpent skeleton with odd flowers sprouting from it.
Encounter Ideas:
- Snake Hunt - An old explorer at the outpost tells the adventurers he's the sole survivor of a party that was mapping the jungle. They were attacked by a massive snake somewhere in the east and he's willing to pay mercenaries willing to avenge his companions' death.
- Infected Villagers - A mysterious disease has wracked the northern village and they are willing to part with some of their mysterious jungle concoctions with anybody willing to help.
- Stolen Idol - Worshippers at the southern temple claim an idol precious to them has been stolen. They suspect somebody at the outpost as the northern villagers wouldn't dare anger the gods.
The second map is Paddy Fields, a farm of stacked rice and lily terraces. There's a lot of elevation for adventurers or their opponents to use to their advantage as the high ground. There's also a lot of difficult terrain that climbers and swimmers can use to maneuver around or hide within. Ducking under the water and sneaking around could be a valid tactic for those of a more roguish persuasion.
Encounter Ideas:
- Insidious Infestations - Giant bugs have started picking at the newly planted rice buds and the farmer needs some help scaring them away, or eliminating them.
- Frogfolk Claim - A frogfolk chieftan has claimed indigenous territorial land rights to the farm and has moved his tribe onto the water terraces. The chieftan is annoyed the farmer won't recognize her claim and is willing to pay good coin to solve the problem.
- Missing Field Hand - One of the farmer's helpers has disappeared. Mysterious lights have been seen floating around the terraces at night, accompanied by strange whispers.
The third map is The Candles, based on a painting by Zdzisław Beksiński. There are large spires jutting from the infinite darkness below. Each spire has a fire-pit, some alight, some not. There are also rotting ropes set between each of the spires by an adventurer of old. Crossing the ropes as they are would be treacherous, especially for those that are carrying a lot of weight. So perhaps those smaller in stature would be a better fit to cross first to belay fresh rope.
Encounter Ideas:
- Enthralled Spirits - Ghostly forms surround the lit firepits staring deeply into the dancing firelight. The adventurers can leave them be, or try to find a way to free them or maybe stare into the firelight themselves to find out what's so mesmerizing.
- Death from the Dark - Large winged creatures attack from the darkness should anybody step into the light of a fire. Maybe they can be avoided if the adventurers can figure out how to snuff out the firepits.
- Collapsing Spires - Some of the spires start to shudder and topple over should they support too much weight, forcing the party to spread out. Of course this would be a perfect opportunity for an attack from lightweight creatures (ghosts or goblins) or heavy creatures that don't care about falling.
