You may have noticed in the readme, or seen for yourself, that Non-GS costumes don't look right in PP anymore. There's a good reason for this, I promise! When I said the visuals were completely overhauled, I meant it, and that also meant changing the shaders for all the models, in GS anyways!
I'll get into the technical details later if you're interested, but if you're not interested just know that I made a change that I, as well as the overwhelming majority of people participating in a Twitter poll felt was higher quality, and ultimately that goal trumps all else.
Still, I don't want non-GS models to look messed up going forward, so I have a solution to propose.
This option would include no GS models at all, and would have a vanilla style lighting model for BP scenes so that default costumes and third party mods would look normal in BP scenes. This would preferably be a separate installation of Gravure Studio for people who use a lot of third party models, or maybe just aren't a fan of BP bodies. This would be annoying and time consuming to maintain, but I understand that it's important as I know that BP historically has been people's go to companion mod for all other DOA5 mods, and breaking compatibility with them and forcing them to use an outdated version of BP is less than ideal.
While it's certainly not just this individual parameter changing in the new shader model, it's certainly the one that makes the biggest difference for why the old models look super bright in the new PP movies. Now, since I can't see the code directly for the game, and some lighting attributes seemingly can't be modded directly with the tools at my disposal, I have a suspicion that in PP movies, the Diffuse2 exponent is dramatically higher than in the rest of the game, which is why GS models can simultaneously look good in both PP and the remainder of the game, while vanilla models are way too bright in PP but look normal everywhere else. If I could find this magic bullet and defuse it it would fix a great deal of problems, but as it stands the legacy version seems to be the surefire solution.
For now, I'm afraid people who are passionate about third party models or vanilla models should stick with Beach Paradise and wait for a forthcoming solution to the GS standard shader model problem. I hope you're enjoying Gravure Studio so far!
