Buffy The Vampire Slayer 4x22 | Restless

My full reaction to Buffy Season 4 Episode 22 "Restless".

Comments

I'll try and remember for sure! I wanna do some live streams after as well.

Chance's House Of Horror

My favorite episode! This is just genius filmmaking and storytelling. I hope you get to deep dive on this when you wrap up the series, which I know is coming up for you. The Passion of the Nerd has a couple of great breakdown videos on it—one that is spoiler free, and one that is more comprehensive (aka contains spoilers). I highly recommend checking them out!

Good but a bit cheesy

Steven Harper

I know I’m late to the game here but after finishing the series, restless became my favorite episode of this season in retrospect

I have to say thank you again so so so much for gifting a sub to me this month! I am so happy I was able to catch up with all of your Buffy reactions! I love all your videos but Buffy is definitely super special to me, so these are definitely my favourite!! I'm hoping my sub will still be active when you start season five because I loveee it! But if it does run out and I can't afford to resub next month, I'll just resub again in the future and binge your videos again haha!

Gabrielle

Season 4 might be my 2nd fav so far behind S3 but I need to think about it more. Gonna do a livestream this week!

Season 5 let’s go!! I hope you do a series rewatch even if it’s without us. Just to compare how you felt the first time

Glad you appreciated this episode and all of its symbolism; especially as a finale too...it's kind of Primeval p2 but so unique. It's really the end of an era. Restless is one of the, if not THE, most artistic episodes. A few in later seasons give it a run for its money (there are 7 seasons of Buffy btw, 5 of Angel) but this episode is so beautiful and deep and probably the most re-watchable season finale just by virtue of being so layered. Top 10 for me. Now that you're done with Season 4, how does it rank among seasons 1-4 for you? How about Restless, Graduation Day, Becoming & Prophecy Girl- best season finale? Restless is a personal favorite for me but as a season finale, I can see seasons 1-3 being technically better in some ways to some people. Maybe Restless is the best though because it dives deep into characters that we've built from season 1 and it sets up/foreshadows things for seasons 5, 6 & 7 so this episode does a lot more than any other episode let alone season finale.

Joss said there is no point of cheese man. However it makes a whole hunka sense to say it represents Amy or more specifically the misuse of magic.

Not you folding for Joyce 💀 this episode is so fucking WILD watching for the first time but gets better every rewatch within context of the rest of the show. I don’t know how someone’s brain even concocts something like this but the writing is sooo good in retrospect. Plus I love a finale that is out of the norm and fitting for this season cos out of all of them I feel like season 4 has a different feel from the rest in comparison. Scared and excited for you moving forward lolll

Chantel Williams

Not what you expect from a season finale but good nonetheless. There's some good foreshadowing in the season between here & the shared Buffy/Faith dream, on a rewatch, you'll catch several things, lol. Fun react man.

So yeah there's a lot in this episode that ties into future seasons. Try not to look up anything specific that people have already mentioned (like the Sapphic Poem for example). I'd do a rewatch though once you finish Buffy and see how much foreshadowing you see. :)

Claire Eyles

Ah I see we're at the metaphorical vagina curtains portion of the show :D

Claire Eyles

As some others have stated, this is one of the best written and acted episode of TV/cinema ever made. Say what you want about Joss Whedon, but he killed it with this finale. Oh and the point of the cheese man, is there is no point.

Talis26

Definitely one of my top 5 favorite episodes.

James Roberts

Oooh that's really cool! Thanks for explaining that!

Chance's House Of Horror

I wear the cheese 🧀 Seeing this for the first time is always a trip. You’ll understand more later. But dreams are still random and some things stay random. Season 5 is peak TV😍

Isabella Peterson

This episode is sooo fuckin trippy haha but I love it, and rewatching it now after finishing the show there is so much great foreshadowing for things to come! Plus who can’t resist cheese man! 🤣🤣

George Alexander

I’ve never seen a show/movie capture the randomness or the absurdity of dreams as well as this episode did. Not to mention all the symbolism and foreshadowing the writers were able to incorporate. Giles singing about steam cleaning his couch always gets me too 😂

amber stephens

I still dont understand the man with the cheese

Adri

Such an incredible episode of TV - imo, up there with the finest television that's ever been produced. This one ages like fine wine and rewards multiple rewatches, especially once you finish the series and can understand it through the context of what's to come (you haven't even begun... lol). So excited to see you get into s5

One of the most fascinating episodes of tv I’ve ever seen, not at all what you’d expect for a season finale but it hits so hard and is so thoughtful.. giving us insight into each character and how they see themselves.. the first time I saw it I was so conflicted about how I felt but with a couple rewatches it’s become one of my favorites of the show

Aurro Eronaile

In Willow's dream, she's painting an ancient greek poem on Tara's back. The poem is by Sappho of Lesbos, from whom we get the words 'sapphic' and 'lesbian' :)
