Yeah I really love how the treated the characters and their relationships this episode. The dialogue and acting really helped elevate it too.

2025-05-07 14:15:40 +0000 UTCWhen this season first aired, I did not pick up on where they were going with the Willow/Tara storyline until this episode. Primarily because it was a US Network show, and I did not think a show in the US would actually have a same sex couple beyond those one off 'very special episodes', but also because around this time there was this whole 'gal pal' trend going on. The 'gal pal' trend was basically a bunch of young straight women running around and acting like they were gay with their best friends, or going to gay bars and pretending to pick up actual non heterosexually identified women (like me) so they could make out with them on the dance floor for the entertainment of their male friends (yeah it was about as bullshit as it sounds). So of course when Tara showed up on Buffy, and her and Willow were making with the innuendo, I was kinda mad because I thought they were just doing a 'gal pal' storyline and weren't going to take the possibility of a same sex relationship seriously. I remember being really annoyed with the Buffy writers, and very dismissive of Tara's character, because I kept thinking this was very out of character for Willow to just suddenly meet a new female friend and start pretending to be gay. And then this episode dropped and my jaw pretty much hit the floor when I realised, "Holy crap, they're actually doing this for real!".

I love this ep cos everyone did a great job acting and they handled the Oz/Willow/Tara situation really well and realistically. It' s bittersweet but it was necessary. Still will miss Oz on the show tho 😩 But glad that they were able to give Willow/Oz a proper send off.
