I also have the situation of just writing whatever my current life circumstance is. Right now I've written a chapter of a story about a man losing his mind working an unfulfilling job that he feels trapped in, and his shortsighted decision to jump ship and buy a spaceship so he can see the galaxy and everything it has to offer. Kind of an escapist fantasy of mine but hey, I'm having fun writing it.
