Cirno & Other Coldfixes

【東方】チルノのパーフェクトさんすう教室 ⑨周年バージョン【IOSYS】

Cirno’s Perfect Math Class

Since her introduction at the very beginning of Danmaku!!, Cirno has been something of a joke character. She was really bad at hitting characters directly in front of her. In Danmaku!! 1.0 we counterbalanced this by giving her a super powerful Spell Card. Perfect Freeze made another player lose their turn with the only defense being Bomb.

Over the years this proved to be a mistake. Players assumed that Cirno’s card was actually incorrect. Their intuition told them that something like losing a turn must require you to hit with the attack, right? They didn’t like that the answer was “no.” We misfired with the last Cirno revision so it was back to the drawing board.

We wanted to keep Cirno being the butt of jokes, but we didn’t want her to be underpowered. Addressing her Spell Card, we added a draw 2 if the attack is avoided. This means that Cirno always gets the baseline spell card effect, or a really nice one if she hits.

We then looked at Seiran’s Ability to draw 1 when her attack missed, but we didn’t double up on Abilities. We ended up putting it on Cirno but only for distance 1 opponents. The reason may not be obvious. Now dear patrons, I want you to not tell your buddies what I’m about to share with you until you’ve had a chance to play as her.

We’ve turned Cirno into a baiting character. When you attack a player at distance 1, it’s because you want them to use the extra dodge power. Because you get your card back, you’re trading a danmaku usage for a new card. Your opponent is now down a card, possibly even a card that’s better than a Graze. Cirno’s new ability allows other players to steal from their future selves. Now who’s the baka?

The End of Late Stage Kourindou

Today’s update brings a long overdue change to Kourindou. We kept getting repeated reports of players getting large hand sizes via party and then repeatedly cycling the deck with Kourindou, Voile, and Grimoire. Well we’ve had enough of hearing about the rich getting richer, so we’ve cut the top off Kourindou.

The new Kourindou is the same as the old one for most players, with the abuse case removed. Please enjoy.

Major Incidents and Master Plan

Initially we had decided that Major Incidents can only be resolved by Master Plan and similar effects. This got us a lot of questions about what happens to ongoing effects of Major Incidents when they’re resolved. We decided that since we’d designed them to be permanent, Major Incidents should actually be permanent. This means that Master Plan now resolves ongoing incidents only, and its text is updated to reflect this.

In addition, we revised some Major Incidents with updated text to be more fun if resolving is impossible.

Comments

This was a mistake in the process. It should be autumn.

Should Autumn Subtype be a winter card?

Sisale

The combo involves repeatedly cycling your entire hand with Kourindou and Autumn Subtype to make the Grimoire, Voile, and especially Party cards come up more. You make Party come up as much as possible so you can fill other players' hands with junk from the main deck, leaving only the draw cards and some filler in the main. It leads to very long turns with everyone else sitting around.

*Cirno getting a buff is good. *Letty getting another debuff, just shows how terrify she was before *I am curious of the abuse case with Kourindou. Never really since it with the amount of plays i had with the game. *Will this also includes Character's that have built-in Master Plan? *Yea, even my group keeps misinterpreting the Mallet *Im going to miss when a Major Incident gets resolved and another one shows up changing the game. doesnt happening often tho.
