Vampire Lore

Vampires have been around for an eternity by now. There are a few stories of how they came to be.

One is that a priest was cursed by a demon of great power to fear everything he held so dear. He'd burn in the sun, he'd spurn food and water and need Christ's Blood for himself instead of giving it to his congregation, he would flee from blessings from his Lord. Then he started to attack the people who trusted him the most, the lambs who used to eat and drink from his hand.

Another is that it started as a disease. A parasite that would live off blood and would burst into flames under the sun due to their weak protection against light and become trapped under someone's skin after a surgery and would drink the patient's blood, leading them to drink other's blood to keep up a constant supply. The parasite laid eggs and the next time the patient drank from someone, the eggs also spread.

A favorite of the Basilica is that it was all due to a Blood Witch. Spurned by the richest man in town, she cursed his blood to sit still in his veins and for him to fall dead for 7 days and 7 nights. When he awoke in his coffin, his ravenous need to keep his blood flowing, instead of sitting congealed within himself, he went on a spree, drinking as much as he could. Horrified at what he done, he fled from the sun and lived with the Witch. Unable to be with anyone else, after a year he fell in love with her, and they had children. These monsters, the first generation of Vampires that came from the most powerful one, would spread and continue turning people. The first vampire could never leave his Witch's side and they still live today, hiding in the depths of the abyss as their children keep spreading.

Whatever version is true, what remains is that Vampires come from an ancient lineage, spanning further than werewolves and nearly as long as Witches, but never as old as Reapers.

They have a plethora of powers that they inherit from their own sire, a few being hypnotism, super speed, super strength, telepathy. As long as they are boosted by their own blood, usually they can take an already existing trait of their and augmenting it to have a supernatural streak.

However, despite being more powerful than the average human, they are weaker than the pure bestial power that comes from Werewolves, but are toe to toe with most Witches. The werewolves, especially older ones, can easily tear a vampire apart, which is why a lot form covens. The two types of Witches that can stand against a vampire easily is, of course, Blood Witches who can drain them of power from their own blood, and Dark Witches with certain powers, such as domination.

Despite how low they are on the pecking order of supernatural creatures, as long as they live long enough, there is a very good chance of them growing greatly powerful and able to stand their own against most monsters.
