Hi Tom and vex. Shootout to a fellow ohioan! Do you think it's a reasonable assumption that blackwell is so bad both because AI demand is there so they don't really want to sell it and looking forward to a possible bubble pop before the next release so they can show huge improvement across the stack when they move to 2nm (and everything gets 3gb ddr7 chips).

2025-02-03 14:13:40 +0000 UTCHi Tom and Vex, Many are disappointed with the 50-series, but most of us don’t upgrade every generation. Small uplifts and features like DP 2.1 are enough to make me glad I waited a few extra months. Well, maybe several months since I lost the launch lottery. Do you really think there are no redeeming qualities that are worth waiting for? With prices still through the roof for all high-end cards, it seems there is no better option. Also, how does CNN quality mode upscaling compare to the new transformer model at lower quality?

2025-02-02 16:07:35 +0000 UTCHi Tom and Vex 1. When will risc-v start to be competitive with x86? And what will be the advantages in those early days? AI? Battery? Cost? 2. At some point, in the not too distant future, could you see AI cores replace GPU cores to streamline APU design? Could we switch to neural rendering or emulate raster on them. Besides AI and GPU cores are both just parallel processors / SIMD machines, right?

2025-02-02 01:51:22 +0000 UTCGreetings Tom and Vex!! With Kepler L2 stating on NeoGaf that PS6 is design complete, it’s leading to speculation that PS6 will release in 2027, even though Sony sort of hinted at 2028. Do you think this is Sony potentially preparing for the possibility that the Xbox Series One Alpha Prime does launch in 2026 and they don’t want to be 2 years behind? Also with Kepler only mentioning one chip do you think the 2nd SoC you previously reported on is perhaps a more powerful backup incase MS doesn’t launch in 2026? And perhaps you were absolutely correct about the handheld just being a downclocked PS6 with everything else the same, or ideally “Switch like” Have you heard anymore about PS6? Thanks for your insight

2025-02-01 21:20:55 +0000 UTCHi Tom and Vex! I sold my XTX ahead of CES because I planned on getting a 5080. Sure, it’s not much faster overall, but would be a big step up in RT and features. But after seeing how hard it is to get one, especially at the mythical $999 MSRP, I am growing more interested in the 9070xt, especially after seeing the performance leaks and the FSR4 CES footage. I think the main thing holding AMD back is FSR 3.1, and thus, FSR 4 support. Many popular game have poor or nonexistent FSR implementations while already having DLSS4 and MFG support on day 1 as pointed out by Fabio over at Ancient Gameplays. I think the killer feature for AMD would be if through Adrenalin you could DLL swap DLSS with FSR4, similar to how certain modding tools function. If you could run all or most DLSS games with AI upscaling, then I think AMD could really take this generation if they don’t fowl up the pricing. Is there any word on what new features Adrenalin will be getting for RDNA4? AFMF3 maybe? Keep up the good work, both of you! Cheers!

2025-02-01 16:08:57 +0000 UTCHi Vex, hi Tom, this more of a rant than a question. My apologies for that. It is related to the repeated discussions about which CEO could save Intel and about Elon Musk and his supposed team of tech geniuses and about how genius Jensen Huang and Hock Tan supposedly are. For some inconspicuous historic reason, we Germans are kind of wary of cults of personality. The US, however, seems to be all-in on it, whether it is religious sects, self-help gurus, (mass/CEO) murderers, influencers, or as of recently: tech CEOs. And it truly has a religion-like quality to it. People suspend their disbelief, no matter how absurd the claims of their tech Jesus become. Critics and sceptics are attacked like blasphemers if they dare to publicly question a tech Jesus. It is absolutely worth looking into these CEOs, not least because of the power they wield. Elon Musk, for instance, was fired from his PayPal CEO position in 2000. He is so sensitive to criticism that he once called a British caver a "pedo guy" for questioning Tesla's disaster aid during a flooded cave rescue in Thailand. The two somewhat successfully companies led by him, Tesla and SpaceX, are completely reliant on government subsidies (It sure is lucky that Musk is part of the government now). Tesla is a run-of-the-mill car company whose stock is traded like it's about to solve all worldly problems by tomorrow. Musk's HyperLoop proposal was either a grift or proof of his incompetence, as any person with a basic understanding of engineering or physics would know that this centuries-old idea of creating a near-perfect vacuum in a tube that stretches hundreds of miles is completely impractical. Then there are Musk's frequent, absurd and broken promises, for example about full self driving, robo-taxis and Mars travel being right around the corner for many years now. Jensen Huang is obviously not as mentally ill as Elon Musk. But there are quite a few statements that make me question his sanity, like the "The more you buy the more you save"-BS and his "You bring your 1600$ GPU home to you 10,000$ home entertainment command center". My prediction for a 6090 release Jensen quote: "You guys have two healthy kidney's, right?". A company is more than its CEO. It's about company culture and the right people in the right positions. Without a Malcolm Gutenburg designing in-house exceptional cooling solutions, for example, NVIDIA would not be able to drive the margins that they do and treat their AIB partners the way they do. It will take more than a good CEO to save Intel. It will require a cultural change moving Intel away from its "Financial Horsepower" mentality. It will require passionate employees to stay with the company while the rats are leaving the sinking ship. It will require a lesson in humility. I guess my question is, as Seinfeld would put it: "Whats the deal with tech CEO cults? How many Enrons, Theranoses and Bankman-Frauds will it take until people become more sceptical?"

2025-02-01 15:07:07 +0000 UTCHello Vex and Tom, the newest update to DLSS and Path Tracing are incredible, but I can still go without Ray Tracing and enjoy a smoother gaming experience. My question is do you think that the solution to the ultimate Ray Tracing experience will be solved in hardware or software?

2025-02-01 15:00:28 +0000 UTCTom and Vex - What would you rather have as a sole device for the next 10 years? Strix Halo 2.0 or RTX6080?

2025-02-01 14:13:00 +0000 UTCHey Tom and vex, the poor performance of the 5080 and 5090 for me sucks so hard. I was ready to get scammed by Nvidia for a 50 percent perf increase on the 5090. More importantly do you think AMD'S lack of competition has permanently damaged the gpu performance market? frame generation shouldn't be Nvidia's headlining feature since it has as many drawbacks as it has benefits. If there was real competition do you think we would have gotten actual frame generation that actually increases perf, responsiveness and latency?

2025-02-01 13:38:48 +0000 UTCSo, Vex, how does it feel to be vindicated and your RTX 5080 pricing leaks proven true? Founders Edition may be $999, but there are AIB models going up as high as $1400. Also, do you guys think Nvidia may "claw back performance" with driver updates for Blackwell, or do you think Nvidia is too proud to do something like that?

2025-02-01 06:19:37 +0000 UTCEven crazier, if a game pushing the limits of the PS5 pro gets ported to PC and has an “ultra setting” on PC that breaks past 16GB of VRAM, it could beat the 5080 on RT from mem footprint alone.

2025-02-01 01:59:36 +0000 UTCDo you have any information from within Nvidia on whether or Not they are disappointed with Blackwell? Is it an rdna 3 situation where they just ended up here or was this part of the plan and they are laughing all the way to the Bank, Even with a $600B drop in valuation, because datacenter is where the Money is at and they dont care about us grubby Gamers?

2025-02-01 01:23:19 +0000 UTCSo, how soon until a 6090? The 50 series feels like the 20 series, in that their selling users on important tech, that isn’t widely available at first, and that by the time it is widely adopted, the gpu offering may feel underpowered.

2025-01-31 23:51:36 +0000 UTCWith 5080 reviews out in the wild, do you think that AMD might be a bit more aggressive and move up the 9070/9070 XT launch to late February, since they have so much stock ready to move? Or would sticking to March let them further refine their marketing and pricing/let Nvidia build up more bad press that could help RDNA 4?

2025-01-31 23:51:09 +0000 UTCI'd like to ask, if not, should they have instead created a larger monolithic die as a substitute for big RDNA 4. I could see a 6900XT style 80 CU die humiliating the 5080.

2025-01-31 23:50:53 +0000 UTCHow long will it take games developers and/or game engine tools to incorporate some of the tech that NVidia showed off at CES? It seems like the 50 series cards value only becomes apparent if games start using that tech, e.g. neural textures, mega geometry, etc. Is this generation more worth it for developers since they could start testing some of those features?

2025-01-31 23:46:08 +0000 UTCGood question, I'm also wondering if AMD will drop a golden sample 9070 XT with 32GB after seeing the unimpressive 5080 uplift. They could sell a 9070 XTX and market it as almost 5080 levels of performance at lower cost and double the VRAM.

2025-01-31 23:30:55 +0000 UTCHi Tom and Vex, Considering how Blackwell is shaping up, it seems like AMD could be in an excellent position to win over gamers if RDNA 4 is priced appropriately. That being said, I think that the introduction of DLSS 4 (the transformer model, not MFG), is going to give FSR 4 a run for its money. AMD needs to deliver a significant improvement in image quality over the current FSR implementation (3.1) to have any chance of closing the gap in image quality and stability. Do you think that AMD can achieve this by March, and have widespread developer support to boot? While Blackwell's hardware may be unimpressive, DLSS 4 is impressive.

2025-01-31 23:14:36 +0000 UTCWhat do you think about the overclockability of the RTX 5080 and its value in light of that? Hardware Unboxed tested an impressive overclock on an MSI RTX 5080, raising the performance by 10–15% on average, and it got much closer to an RTX 4090, about 5–10% less, albeit only four games were tested. JayzTwoCents made a more extended testing of games with an overclocked RTX 5080 FE and found similar results. Does this change the value proposition of the card at MSRP, aside from having to tackle silicon lottery, and as a potentially cheaper 4090 with less VRAM?

2025-01-31 23:00:51 +0000 UTCIf AMD knew then what they know now, in your opinion, should they have created a BIG RDNA 4 to compete with the 5090 since they improved RT. Or did they pass because NVIDIA would just create a 5090 Ti. Seems like NVIDIA bumped up the power demand on the 5000 series.

2025-01-31 22:54:15 +0000 UTCHello Tom and Vex. I'm currently wondering if RDNA 4 would respond well to aggressively more power. That begs the question where could it fall on the 5000 product stack if uped to those power levels

2025-01-31 22:41:49 +0000 UTCGood Day Tom and Vex, with 50 Series failing to deliver an price to performance upgrade, should Game devs stop increasing their Hardware requirements. People who are on a 3060 will likely not upgrade to a RTX 5060 as it will at most have 20 % more performance with the same VRAM.

2025-01-31 22:41:01 +0000 UTCCould AMD drop a 32GB version in 6 months if the 9070 XT performs well? No extra bandwidth, just stacked/denser chips or some such. Can that be done without a redesign? Would it make any financial sense? It looks like the 9070XT could very well see VRAM limits for RT in some games like the RTX 5080/5070 Ti is.
