Random thoughts: How can AMD/Intel compete with nVidia even in the mid range with a much lower R&D budget? By copying ideas the previous gen high-end from nVidia. If you're competing in the mid-range you're reinventing the wheel vs. the high end where you have to fully catch up to nVidia's innovations. The main reason the US would go to bat for Intel is "Made in the USA" for defense contracts--I doubt they'd want TSMC to manufacture certain hardware even if it was from a fab in the US and under contract from a US company like AMD. So maybe the best takeover candidate for Intel (in particular the fabs) is one of the big defense conglomerates like RTX (Raytheon/United Tech) or Lockheed Martin.

If Zen 6 is going to have 24 cores, I kind of hope they move off of AM5. They're going to need more I/O and memory bandwidth to avoid throttling those cores, or at best the penalty for going from onboard cache to memory will be even worse than for Zen 5. I suppose a new memory controller can help with both speeds and latency, but that won't add more PCIe lanes.
