Hey guys :) I just posted this in hardware talk just now, it might be too late for this weeks episode tho :( This could probably be a discussion point in an Broken Silicon but I'm probably a little bit late for this weeks episode.. My girlfiend and I are doing a bit of a renovation in our aparment. Changing out some old drywall and planks with new drywall. At the moment there is no ethernet or anyting in the wall, I would like to wire ethernet to all the rooms in our apartment. But its 2023 and wifi 7 is here, is wifi 7 good enough for replacing ethernet? (ps. We also have plans to put internet and tv in a centralized location, make some kind of electrical closet and maybe add wires through the walls for in wall speakers, maybe also add a hdmi or two to possible tv locations in the living room. )

2023-11-12 20:18:53 +0000 UTCHi Tom and Brian We have recently been seen rumors regarding AMD and NVIDIA working on Arm chips, with NVIDIA it's pretty self explanatory on how they plan to utilize them, but how do you think AMD will plan to use them? Do you believe they could use the ARM cores as replacement for the C-cores on say Zen 6 or a Zen 6 refresh, do you think it will be a stand alone product maybe a server exclusive skew, will we see an APU or some mobile variant from AMD using arm, or is this just another way of the news article saying they are working on those android chips with RDNA graphics on them?

2023-11-12 12:56:54 +0000 UTCOhaio Bryan and Tom As something related to the Used Part hunt series on TechYesCity and general used part shopping, what do you guys thing is a good cut off point for hardware deemed "too old"? Perhaps when driver supports starts to go away? Or certain performance level/ capability like Mesh shaders or FSR/DLSS support?

2023-11-11 22:46:18 +0000 UTCHi, I am currently building a new HEDT/Workstation and I got my hands on a Threadripper 7960X CPU a bit early, which I am really happy about. But on the mainboard side, I am concerned. There are only 4 TRX50 Mainboards announced in total (1 Asus, 1 Asrock, 1Gigabyte, 1 Supermicro), even compared to W790(SPR), the current selection is a bit sparse. But what do you think? Should Motherboard manufacturers provide a broader selection of boards for HEDT? And also, why aren't they investing in more models? The second point is the availability of the announced boards during launch. There are still no listings of them on the retail side, and after asking some of the retailers, I got the information that even they didn't know when the mainboards will be available. Will there be (enough) mainboards on launch? Overall I think the TRX50 platform feels a bit rushed. But what is your opinion about it?

2023-11-11 22:06:30 +0000 UTCHi Tom and Bryan, What do you think PCs need to equal something like the PS5's decompression silicon? In regards to that, I think GPU performance tanks when DirectStorage is used, which might not be acceptable when high end components might cost $1000 or more. Maybe that's why DirectStorage hasn't been used in more than a few PC games to date. Thanks!

2023-11-11 21:59:04 +0000 UTCHello Tom and Bryan, first, let me say loving all of your conversation this far (even though this is before the podcast). Secondly, let me ask this; when it comes to building a game specifically for PC hardware, consoles being a somewhat distant after thought, how much goes into planning for next generation hardware versus current generation hardware, or even last generation hardware? Edit: Which one of you thinks any Threadripper system is overkill for high end gaming? Thanks and much love you guys!

2023-11-11 21:39:28 +0000 UTCBryan we had a die shrink recently (Tom insert Patreon plug here) about the renaissance of PC gaming and how it's changed PC gaming and what started/ended it. I'm just wondering what was your favourite era of PC gaming and PC hardware?

2023-11-11 21:37:16 +0000 UTCWith AMDs APUs outlined for the next few years are we finally at the death of entry level/low end GPUs? We've been saying it for years but the APUs that Tom has leaked seem to really be hitting the nail on the end there. Bonus question: Will the new low end be what we consider mid range now?

2023-11-11 21:35:01 +0000 UTCBryan, are you more excited to see Zen 5 or Arrow Lake?

2023-11-11 21:33:05 +0000 UTCHey guys. How has RDNA 3 and Lovelace played out for you? I know we still have super cards to launch but overall, how has this generation been?

2023-11-11 21:31:31 +0000 UTCWe're seeing companies like Minisforum take mobile parts and create SFF desktops out of them. Do you see this as potentially becoming a major trend and if so why and do you consider it to be a good thing? Personally, I rather like the idea of a simple, low cost but good quality desktop.

2023-11-11 21:30:36 +0000 UTCHey Tom and Brian. With RDNA 4 mobile coming out in about 1 years’ time, how do you think this will affect Strix Halo; since SP + RDNA 4 could end up being more power efficient and performant than Halo while having similar or the same die size. With most configurations of Halo having 16 core, do you think it could lead to them outpricing themselves with Halo compared to what could be accomplished with RDNA 4 + Strix Point? (IE: Strix Halo could be ~300mm^2 for CPU, and ~240mm^2 for GPU, where as SP + RDNA 4 could be ~170mm^2 for CPU + ~280mm^2 for GPU). Keep up the good work as always 👍🏻.

2023-11-11 21:26:39 +0000 UTCHello Tom and Bryan, With the recent export controls set by the US on China for high-end GPUs such as H100 and AD102, do you foresee these controls expanding anytime in the medium to long term future? Could we potentially see these bans expand to AMD GPUs or trickle further down the Nvidia consumer product stack (i.e. restrictions on Lovelace or Blackwell 103/104 dies)? If so, how will this shape the GPU market in upcoming hardware generations?

2023-11-11 21:24:44 +0000 UTCHi Tom and Bryan with the announcement of the steam deck oled. How powerful of a next generation apu do you think they'll need for a steam deck 2?

2023-11-11 21:21:59 +0000 UTCHey guys, with the announcement of the new and seemingly very powerful Qualcomm X Elite ARM-APU, may we begin to see a new era for PC gaming on the horizon, especially for Notebooks? I'm not even talking about iGPUs, but ARM CPUs with AMD or NVidia dedicated graphics. Maybe even some all-in-one PCs with everything soldered on except GPU and storage?

2023-11-11 11:13:59 +0000 UTCHi Tom and Brian when talking about Intel and the datacenters I believe you omit (or don't highlight) one important aspect a bit. The CPU's will matter less and less in the future. I believe that future of processing and analyzing of data is in machine learning therefore companies will rely more and more on gpu's and accelerators. What is the state of Intel's offerings in this segment? Will they have enough to at least keep 50% of data center market share? What will be their margins in upcoming years in this segment?

2023-11-11 08:18:01 +0000 UTCHey tom and bryan. Innovation marches on forever. I know. Amds innovation with x3d is incredible and on paper I believe zen 5 x3d might be a monster to last a decade. I believe I recall you suggesting single threaded performance was important to zen5. Any thoughts or updates on what zen 5 x3d could bring to gamers. I particularly loving hearing about how the architectures prepare and utilize x3d as they have evolved.

2023-11-10 23:54:15 +0000 UTCHey Tom and Bryan, From the current information we have on the 40 super series it should be an interesting launch rather then a laughable one like the 4080 or 4060ti. How would you like to see AMD answer this launch? Who do you think will be in the better position by mid next year?

2023-11-10 23:09:01 +0000 UTCHi Tom and Bryan What do you think about meteor lake's intricate chiplet design? AMD uses monolithic dies for laptop due to inherent efficiency and latency advantages. I can't help but think that meteor lake may be inefficient outside of idling and benchmarking due to its many tiles. Not to mention fab and packaging costs. If Intel 4 was more mature, do you think we would've seen a monolithic meteor lake chip?

2023-11-10 22:55:53 +0000 UTCFor Tech Yes City: How competitive will Arrow Lake be for gaming given the P cores don’t have hyper threading against Zen 5X3D? How about Zen 6 and 6X3D
