Discussing PS VR2, XBOX Refreshes, PS5 Pro, and other Hardware w/ NX Gamet
Added 2023-02-19 23:26:38 +0000 UTCBroken Silicon's next guest will see another return of NX Gamer! After largely ignoring the console space in 2022, we now plan to heavily discuss consoles again:
- PS VR2 (He has one, Recording before Embargo!)
- The State of Microsoft's Game Studios
- Future of Gamepass and Other Business Models
- Upcoming Slim 6nm Refreshes
- If Sony (or MS) should bother with "Pro" Consoles
- When Next Gen should launch, and what it should be
- Nintendo Switch 2
- Zen 4, Raptor Lake, Zen 5
- RDNA 3, Lovelace, Future Architectures
So yeah - there's PC Gaming Hardware subjects on the list too. Michael's daily life outside of YouTube actually deals with PC Hardware and programming - so he can honestly talk about almost anything - don't be shy!

Hi NX and Tom, warzone 2 has many glitches, game bugs making timeout or crash + anticheat issues so that people have over 1000 person discords for banned people... and some have bought game... how is this good business model ? Service based (ie online only) games need to be rock solid vs single player or people dont play it.... I guess CoD get a pass but...

2023-02-21 01:57:19 +0000 UTCAre you expecting the latest generation consoles to get significantly cheaper over time? Sony did recently introduce a 6nm shrink of the PS5 processor, which helps a bit. However, 5nm wafers are just too expensive right now and will probably be for years. Also, too much of the chip is SRAM and I/O, which barely shrinks anymore. I'd expect any price reductions to be very slow and gradual.

2023-02-20 19:43:20 +0000 UTCNow that we have insane raster performance in the top end with the 4090 demolishing 4K, when do you think AMD and NVIDIA will go with minimal raster performance increases for massive raytracing performance increases, and do you think this will be before or after the next generation of consoles?

2023-02-20 17:46:22 +0000 UTCQuestions regarding Microsoft and Activision: As the UK regulator asked quite a bit from Microsoft, do you think they will push forward? If so, what concessions do you expect? And what would that imply for their Gamepass strategy in both cases (i.e. if the acquisition goes through or not)?

2023-02-20 17:11:54 +0000 UTCHi Tom, Do you think the new Nintendo console will arrive this year? Or do you think that despite a slowdown of sales, they will try to delay it to next year? (Note that while hardware sales are indeed slowing down, the software sales continues to be strong for the switch). Is there any tractation between Nintendo and AMD, or is it only with NVIDIA for now? Small question to finish the Nintendo aspect: do you think they will make a clear "Switch 2", or have you heard of a new "gimmick" for the new console, à la Wii U vs Wii?

2023-02-20 17:08:59 +0000 UTCA year after Microsoft announced they will be buying Activision Blizzard, they announced they will be laying off 10,000 employees across the company. Take a guess how many employees Activision Blizzard has? If you’re guessing around 10,000 you’re right. Do you think Microsoft sees success with the buyout or are these just coincidence and they are getting ready for the recession pretty much already here.

2023-02-20 16:55:36 +0000 UTCInstead of launching games in a working state and using DLSS and FSR as a boost to that already playable baseline. To me it seems as if developers are using the tech to make the game playable instead of making the game playable without it. It feels as if I’ve played too many games recently where I’ve said “thank god this supports DLSS so this game is playable”. I know DLSS is a good thing and is a positive, but I can’t help but think it’s also a negative where devs are using it to bail them out. What are your thoughts?

2023-02-20 16:27:01 +0000 UTCI've found that VR game benchmarking is nearly non-existent. It would be good to know which GPU vendor has better support and performance, but most hardware reviewers won't touch it. Is this simply due to lack of interest or not enough demanding titles, or something like technical hurdles with headsets?

2023-02-20 16:23:42 +0000 UTCHello, For the switch, do you think nintendo will prioritize battery life or performance (so the product can be sold longer)? The steam deck is very powerful but the battery life and size does not make it easy to use.

2023-02-20 16:01:55 +0000 UTCHello, AMD used to be in almost every console. Do you think that it will contine in the future? What impact could it have in future zen and RDNA architecture? Could it have an impact in ray-tracing in game?

2023-02-20 15:58:08 +0000 UTCI feel that RDNA3 has lot of unfulfilled potential due to which it isn't able to compete with 4090. Do you think RDNA4 will will be able to competewith 5090?

2023-02-20 09:07:28 +0000 UTCI'm definitely interested in your thoughts on the zen 4 memory controller limitations, where 4 dual rank RAM sticks clock significantly slower than 2 dual rank sticks l, have worse latency, etc. Do you think this is something gamers need to care about and think about not populating all RAM slots? Do you think zen 5 will be better for this?

2023-02-20 06:17:18 +0000 UTCHello Tom and Michael. I am farsighted at +4 diopter and constantly wearing +3 glasses. How would PSVR2 accommodate people with bad eyesight like me?

2023-02-20 05:56:16 +0000 UTCHey Tom and NX Gamer, in terms of sales for the PS VR2, what is PlayStation giving up in not allowing connectivity with PC? I have a PS5, but even so I don't think I would get the headset unless I could play HL:A and several other currently PC only titles

2023-02-20 03:57:16 +0000 UTCHi Tom and Michael, Big fan of both your work! As part of Rez Infinite's PSVR2 update, a new mode has been added which allows for aiming just by looking at targets (thanks to the headsets eye tracking capabilities). It sounds like it could be a transformative experience for responsiveness and immersion. What kind of gameplay experiences could this eye tracking tech open up? And perhaps more broadly, are there any novel gaming concepts you want to see explored in VR that haven't to this point? Thanks!

2023-02-20 03:48:31 +0000 UTCGreetings Tom and NX Gamer. What do you think of modern console pricing when compared to PC's and do you think that console pricing will go up, stay the same, or go down?

2023-02-20 01:36:07 +0000 UTCHey tom and NX gamer. Am I the only one that thinks making a pro console this Gen makes too much sense to not do? PS5 is already on 6nm and I'm sure the Xbox Series X will be too. Why not use RDNA3 Navi 32 which is supposed to be on 6nm anyways and it will be around the power of a 6900XT then use Zen 3 and add VCache onto it. Give it 20GB of Vram 24GB of ram and 1.5 TB of storage. This will allow the console to game at a dynamic 4k 120fps and even do 240hz gaming at 1080p. It will probably cost around the same price as the PS5 and Xbox Series X when it first launched and they can charge $600 for it. Maybe I am wrong but it just seems to make too much sense, especially with Sony now making their 1st party games with unlocked framerates now.

2023-02-20 01:30:36 +0000 UTCHey guys, Do you think that Microsoft will reconsider its contractor based hiring methodology for its studios after reaching the point of rebuilding at least part of Halo Infinite in Unreal Engine? It seems like a step they only had to take because they were constantly replacing developers right as they attained proficiency with Slipstream (343's in-house engine for Halo Infinite), because of two year contract terms. It seems like a strategy that's only sustainable if you force all your studios to use a prolific engine like Unreal or Unity across ALL projects... which isn't the case, from what I understand of current Microsoft Games Studios productions.

2023-02-20 01:29:36 +0000 UTCHello Tom and NX, is gamepass going to be a long term thing that stays? As someone who loves it and recommends its, I doesn’t seem sustainable for Microsoft. I’ve had gamepass for going on two years now but have not paid for it in a good amount of time because of Microsoft rewards. Ten minutes a day doing the quest I’ve found racks up enough points for me to just earn my next month with no additional costs, I’m sure I’m one of many who do this. Will there be a price increase in the future more along the lines of what Sony is charging for its recent service or is gamepass sustainable. I assume they will want to make their money back on all those acquisitions.

2023-02-20 01:25:25 +0000 UTCHello Tom and NX, with Microsoft talking a bit more openly about Game Pass effecting sales of games and I believe Game Pass subscribers being relatively stagnate compared to the massive boom when it first launched. Do you think we've hit saturation point for these types of services? Personally I no longer use Game Pass as they've removed too many games I invested time into, and with a weak first party line up it's not worth the price IMO. What do you guys think?

2023-02-20 00:51:05 +0000 UTCHello Tom and NX, what are your opinions of Xbox Game Studios? Frankly, they're lackluster in my opinion. They have 23 studios and have been acquiring the majority of them for 5+ years and they really don't have much to show. Their quality always seems worse than Sony's studios, and even 3rd party. When do you guys believe we'll start seeing a major push to quality software from Microsoft?

2023-02-20 00:49:15 +0000 UTCConsidering Sony offers officially support for the PS5 controller on PC, Android, etc (which is a first to my knowledge) what are the chances they will offer official support for the PS VR2 on PC (after initial demand is satisfied)?

2023-02-20 00:15:46 +0000 UTCHello Tom and Michael, What are your thoughts on where the SteamDeck will go in the future (mainstream, sold in stores, 2nd gen, etc) and how/if Proton will change the industry or if the industry will just keep expecting Valve/community to take care of the rough edges? I am seeing more and more high profiles games laugh with SteamDeck support. I finally feel that I can enjoy a Linux only computer with no need for Windows anymore (my computer is Linux only now). Thanks.

2023-02-19 23:47:21 +0000 UTCHi Tom and NX gamer, Do you think valve will release a new steamdeck with maybe a new zen4/rdna3 apu?

2023-02-19 23:43:06 +0000 UTCHello Tom and guest, if a pro version of the consoles is come, it should be in the works now. What level of performance are you expecting and what hardware put now is feasible to put in them? Personal the current gen of consoles can’t get much better. If there’s anything I would like added/improved is to be able to run any of the games out at a stable 60 at 4K.

2023-02-19 23:37:08 +0000 UTCHi Tom and NX Gamer, just writing in regarding the Switch 2 as a platform. Given the upgraded hardware specs over the original console, are we likely to see new titles which can only run on the Switch 2, or will both consoles play the same games, just with better performance/ higher resolution when played on the Switch 2? Cheers!
