Two things. On the market for a VPN, which does one still support your channel? Also, any idea on the raspberry pi being die shrunk in the future. It seems to be a great platform that would benefit by a more dense node.

2023-02-03 21:40:07 +0000 UTCIs Zen 4c coming to desktop/laptop?

2023-02-03 18:02:03 +0000 UTCTom, Is the 7800X 3D expected to scale among resolutions similar to how the 5800X 3D scaled linearly, with a GPU bottleneck at 4k resolution?

2023-02-03 16:29:18 +0000 UTCDo you think reviews should include "price/performance" sections? My argument for why they shouldn't: - prices differ across markets - prices differ in time (ALL Ryzen 7000 reviews were obsolete mere weeks in, as Ryzen 7000 got bundles, price drops) - the value of a part, how people evaluate it, is very individual; for example, many will simply buy "the best" no matter the cost, as "the best" has a huge value for them, regardless of by what margin it's "the best" What would be a better alternative?

2023-02-03 16:20:38 +0000 UTCGiven the higher margins retailers make on Ryzen 7000 than on Raptor/Alder Lake, do you know of retailers trying to push people towards Ryzen rather than Core?

2023-02-03 16:17:30 +0000 UTCConsider the disappionting leak about 780M iGPU (TS score less than 3000), is RDNA3 on 780M nearly no improvement at all compare to 680M or its the driver not being ready? I thought 780M might be able to match 1060M at first, but it looks like I need to lower the expectation first.

2023-02-03 13:59:30 +0000 UTCConsidering Zen 4's latest pricing, including the X3D models, are we now in a full on price war? Does Intel have anything left in the tank?

2023-02-03 13:49:42 +0000 UTCDo you have any new information about Navi 33 for desktop such as performance or launch window? It seems like the most promising product for most gamers. I know we’ll never know what’s going on inside Radeon right now in regards to RDNA 3 but I’m really curious what the plan is for the rest of the line-up now.

2023-02-03 12:54:38 +0000 UTCKinda dumb of them to say that, I think. Looking on AMD's website they do say this: https://community.amd.com/t5/gaming/a-new-year-starts-with-new-am5-options/ba-p/582404 "For processors without a cooler in the box, like our Ryzen 7000 Series processors with AMD 3D V-Cache™ technology, we recommend a 280mm AIO liquid cooler for the best performance. A range of cooler options for the Ryzen 7000 Series processors is listed on AMD's website." That's not really much better - feels like they're trying too hard to upsell people. I'd just use an AM4 cooler if you have one spare. Going by the Zen 4 reviews at launch, I think what they meant to suggest is that you will get (slightly!) better performance with something with a 280mm cooler but you certainly don't "need" one. We'll have to see what the reviews of X3D parts say but I wouldn't be surprised if a bottom end cooler only loses you a few percent.

2023-02-03 12:31:28 +0000 UTCHi Tom, In the AMD Q4 results, it seems like the Client side lost almost half its revenue compared to last year, even enduring a loss (around 150 M$). Meanwhile, Intel client side of the business only lost a third of its revenue and kept being positive (+700 M$). Do you think AMD will focus more on the client side moving forward? As I understand it, there is ample capacity at TSMC, so AMD could produce more. Or is there another bottleneck down the line which prevents a rise in sales (motherboard, chipset, ...)?

2023-02-03 11:11:40 +0000 UTCAssuming that ARC grows its drivers enough to become generally viable, at what percentage of the current (under)pricing would they become financially sustainable? If ARC has to raise prices by 30/40%, I fear they just won't sell, and all the considerable work Intel has put in may end up essentially wasted.

2023-02-03 10:16:48 +0000 UTCThe general recession will hit tech hard (less room for long term plans and more core stuff/survival), how do you think Intel, AMD and Nvidia are set in this upcoming poor market? AMD has obviously aimed for cost efficiency more than the others, but their size is also considerably smaller.

2023-02-03 10:11:44 +0000 UTCAnother question 🙂 Early in your Arc leaks, you had some rumors of designs from 1 to 4 tiles. The 4 tile design, used a lot of energy. At the same time, the rumor was it had interesting performance. After seeing how much power nvida allows 3090ti and 4090 to use, was it a mistake from Intel to make a 250 ish watt Card. Or was this the best performance they could make?

2023-02-03 08:37:48 +0000 UTCHei Tom 🙂 Is 6nm a ''bad'' node? Apple skipped 6 nm, and went straight from 7 to 5. Nvida also went straight to 4 or 5. Both Intel and Amd vent for 6nm, and both products on this node have had trouble. And both are trying to fix it with driver's. Not saying it's =

2023-02-03 08:17:24 +0000 UTCI don’t get how Nvidia are going to play this. Do they expect people to pay thousands for a 4070 laptop thats potentially worse than a 3070 which is selling for cheap right now? I’m guessing they’re gonna be relying heavily on DLSS 3 to sell these laptops.

2023-02-03 08:00:58 +0000 UTCHey Tom, While the 7000 series of AMD cards are getting lots of bug fixes and driver updates including day 0 patches the 6000 series of cards haven’t seen an update of any kind in between 53-61 days depending on your source but nothing from the AMD page since december 11th. I brought this up on broken silicon as a question but it’s worse then I even saw. What is going on with AND selling these 6000 series cards over the holidays and not giving any updates to them. There are newer games right now not working right on them and every day that goes by there is even more concern.

2023-02-03 06:13:20 +0000 UTCDoes Nvidia really think they can play chicken with the whole gaming GPU market? First they bring no cost per frame improvement to desktop and the rest of the year doesn't look good. Then they bring an almost identical offering to laptop where the choice is either exorbitant pricing or no gen over gen raster performance improvement. What are they going to do if/when (hopefully when) consumers reject this strategy?

2023-02-03 05:58:21 +0000 UTCWhere are cooling solutions going when AMD is recommending 280 AIO water coolers for their 7000 X3D parts and Intel is even worse off with their high-end chips? If this keeps escalating like GPU heat-sink sizes, where will we be in 3 to 5 years? What tech is necessary? Would they literally make a mini air conditioner for PC's? Will I have to attach my PC to a home HVAC system to direct-vent the heat outside or pull cool air in from somewhere? How will we cool a high-end rig in a few years-- can 360 AIO liquid coolers keep up?

2023-02-03 05:33:30 +0000 UTCHi Tom. Do you think that the early Zen 4 X3D announcement hurt initial Zen 4 sales? New platforms cost are high at launch, and people new the best gaming CPUs will only be available in 3-4 months, so why not wait for prices coming down on boards/DDR5 and get a Zen 4 X3D as a bonus for waiting.

2023-02-03 04:14:07 +0000 UTCYou mentioned previously that Nvidia still has a lot of ampere stock. Any news on that? besides 60 and 70 cards that are still in stock and still expensive in my opinion. I've only seen restocks on Newegg from an unknown brand called Peladn that seems to be the only placing providing 3080's brand new. Are other aib's holding off because they still can't get rid of the 4070ti and 4080? Or have they already gotten rid of their stock?

2023-02-03 04:01:48 +0000 UTCHello Tom is the staggered launch window of the x3d because AMD can't meet the demand? They announced the cpu's would be available in February nothing about certain models. I'm finding it odd the main SKU that will sell the most volume is being launched a month after. Or am I just overthinking.
Sad XTX 999
2023-02-03 03:50:28 +0000 UTCTom, I got tired of waiting on Navi 32 (assuming 7800 XT) so I picked up a 6950 XT. I won't be disappointed with this I believe but realistically would the 7800 XT even be better performing than the 6950 XT except for maybe raytracing? 6950 XT was a pretty good price and I don't want to be in the endless wait cycle anymore.

2023-02-03 03:49:47 +0000 UTCTom, do you think AMD delayed the 5800X3D to milk consumers by pushing them to 5900 or 5950, or do you think they did it to try and have more stock?
Nicholas not Nick
2023-02-03 03:47:48 +0000 UTCTom, what's your thoughts on the full Zen 4 X3D line up now that it's been fully announced? Why stagger the SKUs? Is the 7900X3D 6+6 or 8+4?

2023-02-03 03:44:04 +0000 UTCTom, If this is not already planned for Zen 5, how well would Zen 4 X3D parts need to sell at launch compared to the Zen 4 Launch, for AMD to decide to launch Zen 5 with X3D parts at the same time?
