Reactions to Nvidia's RTX 4000 Reveal - Die Shrink Telegrams

Nvidia Lovelace has been revealed...what are your immediate reactions?  What are your immediate questions?  Is it living up to the hype so far?

Although MLID is confident more RTX 4000 info will keep dropping throughout the week, we are also confident there will be enough total information by week's end to fuel multiple podcast discussions. As such, we thought it would be good to get early reactions down now!

You have 2 hours to submit your immediate reactions to the Lovelace reveal!  Please be concise, use good grammar, and be respectful to have your submission below considered.

Tom and Dan will record tonight, and drop this episode as soon as it is done being edited on 9/21/22!  No waiting, let's talk!

Well hello QXE! And yes, it is surprising that they appear to offer worse value than the 4090, and demonstrably worse value than the $700 6900 XT. If toleration means buying them, don’t!

The pricing of the RTX 4080 16G and 4080 12G is just insane and should not be tolerated.

Hi Tom and Dan, I feel like the impact of EVGA leaving is still underestimated because I haven't seen many people talking about the manufacturing that has to be shifted. This could be picked up by other AIBs or Nvidia but unless they foresaw EVGA leaving they will need increased capacity. This means hiring new staff, working staff harder, sourcing more materials, using different factories and using different brands of components. Do you think this shift will impact Nvidia's volume and/or reliability? Did anything comparable to this happen when you were in the automotive industry?

Gus

Hi, I was disappointed in so many ways... gotta wait more to see if 3070 type "surprise" winner, balanced card will be there in lineup... hard to say without benchmarks coming and yet only 4090 launch date is confirmed now.

Timo H

I think these cards really only appeal to people with money to burn, who play on 4k 144hz displays. Most of the Ampere cards are more than adequate for 1080p-1440p high refresh rate gaming. Nvidia has priced high end Lovelace to slot on top of the existing Ampere lineup. 3070 ti $600 3080 $700 3090 $800 4080 12gb $900 4080 16gb $1200 4090 $1600 Lovelace won’t be affordable until Ampere stock is sold. You rock Tom, much love from Texas.

Hugely impressed by DLSS 3.0 taking Occulus-like motion extrapolation into the desktop realm. For me this was the standout technology of the show.

Why is DLSS so important to people? What game will a 4080->4090 run at a frame rate in 4k that's not good enough? Aren't these technologies becoming a mute point?

I will be honest: I found the keynote to be underwhelming. It felt like a marketing presentation from Samsung. Now that we have confirmation of some of the leaks and rumors from over the last 2 years, I really do believe that AMD Radeon has been handed the biggest Silver platter ever. I think the main saving grace from this was DLSS 3.0

Hi Tom and Dan, do you think Nvidia will again do artificial shortage for 4000 series and is it better to get a new 3090ti for 1050$ than 4080 16GB for 1200$

Hi Tom and Dan. Is DLSS 3 so fundamentally different that it warrants only rtx 4000 series cards able to run it? From your latest Broken Silicon with guest I did understand that RTX 2000 and 3000 has differences in how the hardware runs DLSS, and current gen would run Ray tracing and DLSS better but do you think this is another ploy by NVidia to artificially create demand for RTX 4000?

Hello Tom and Dan, While I think Nvidia solidified its lead in software for GPU’s with things like DLSS 3 and RTX Remix, the pricing of these new cards are ridiculous, primarily the 4080’s. A $500 increase for the “real “ 4080 is multiple price brackets higher than previous 80 class cards. Also my hope is that reviewers review the 4080 12gb for what it is, a 4070ti at best. $899 What a joke.

Billy Mays

Hey Tom, in my humble opinion I believe the 4000 is the final nail in the coffin for acceptability and gpus can only be exceptional with few exceptions. The consoles are for value and PC is for the max. Nvidia's claims to just create frames in dlss 3.0 is a cold death state at rdna 3 progress in pure hardware.

Swiggles

I for one am absolutely disgusted that they rebranded the 4070 as the 4080 12GB and are charging $900 for it. Also if they software lock DLSS3 to Ada and the 40xx cards I will dump Nvidia for ever. I have no issues with my 6800xt or my 3080ti but Nvidia’s anti-consumer and anti-partner programs and practices need to be held in check.
