August Loose Ends Reader Mail
Added 2022-09-02 20:04:28 +0000 UTCAugust is over, Tom will be doing a Loose Ends livestream VERY soon (probably at 5pm US Central Time today). This month has seen a decent amount of news and events:
- Re-confirmation that Nvidia is indeed launching Lovelace this Fall
- AMD (kinda) showed off RDNA 3 for the first time
- General Specs for Navi 31, 32, and 33 are leaked!
- Alchemist still isn't really out lol
- Zen 4 has been Unveiled
- Zen 4 V-Cache Benchmarks are out
- We know basically everything about Raptor Lake...although Tom will leak more in this livestream ;)
You have ~1.5 hours to submit your reader mails below about last month's news and upcoming developments in 2022. Be concise, respectful, and use good grammar to be considered!

Tom, with the oversupply of gpu's Would is this the opportunity for Intel to just buy the cards from Nvidia and launch them with a Intel sticker? There was some talk about Nvidia using Intel's fab a while back. If Amd and Apple leaves the others in the dust, could a merge of Intel and Nvidia be a thing?

2022-09-02 22:23:53 +0000 UTCHey Tom, You've recently upgraded you GPU from a 3070 to a 3090. any plans on upgrading from AM4 to AM5? Personally, Im on ZEN 3 an skipping ZEN 4 and waiting for ZEN5/ZEN5+ (if ZEN5+ even is a thing that materializes...) DDR5 is currently still too expensive over DDR4, and AM5 may or may-not have some early adopter pains...

2022-09-02 21:56:42 +0000 UTCHey Tom, what do you think of the news from Robert Hallock that running infinity fabric at 1:1:1 or 2:1:1 no longer matters? Is this a function of ddr5 just being so much faster? In case you missed it, he recommended just running IF at auto (1733 mhz) and tuning your ram like normal.

2022-09-02 21:19:33 +0000 UTCHi Tom, I'm very interested in Raphael-X above 8 cores, do you have any news on the 7950X3D or even a 7900X3D? And any news on the average power consumption of the slowest Navi 31 product?

2022-09-02 21:11:28 +0000 UTCHowdy Tom, At AlderLake launch, DDR5 was pointless. Now there is a noteworthy performance gap in certain scenarios such as HUB's Spider-Man testing. Do we know how RapterLake will fare with DDR4? As a 12700K + DDR4 owner, how much performance might I lose on 13900K + DDR4? Thanks

2022-09-02 21:06:09 +0000 UTCImage reconstruction seems to be the hottest and easiest way to bring down the minimum spec for the low end. And even in the right game increase performance with minimal loss to visuals at the high end. How much of an emphasis do you think both players will put on image reconstruction this generation as it can be the last minute or after loss performance boost that can help break the ties.

2022-09-02 21:02:42 +0000 UTCHi Tom, After listening to the die shrink with KarbinCry, where you`ve discussed Intels future architectures, meteor/arrow/lunar/nova etc lakes. You've clearly pointed out that those architectures should be thought of as PLATFORMS. Meteor lake might come out, and lets say a year after its release the next gen cpu tile will be ready, while the battemage one is in... abyss. Intel could plug the new cpu tile and release the same overall package but with better cpu cores. Basically they'll have a cafeteria system, where a customer could miss and match different ip blocks to balance exactly the product they need. It reminded me one of your old video about chiplets when zen2 was around the corner, where you've speculated that AMDs end-goal is exactly this sort of cafeteria system. Could Intel beat Amd at their own game eventually? Reach their competitors end goal faster, than they do? Kind regards new patreon, sorry if the question isn't clear enough
2022-09-02 20:53:07 +0000 UTCHello Tom, You’ve mentioned multiple times that desktop Navi 33 may not launch until 2023. Wouldn’t AMD want to capture the $400-$500 market with its competition being discounted ampere?

2022-09-02 20:48:57 +0000 UTCHey Tom, I was thinking about possible segmentation for Navi 31 after watching your video and reading Angstronomics. My thoughts are 7950XT (Navi 31 3D stacked 1-hi), 7900XT (Navi 31 non-3D 0 hi), 7800XT (cut down Navi 31 42 WGP, 5xMCD). Could this be the possible launch segmentation for RDNA3 this fall?

2022-09-02 20:48:13 +0000 UTCWith all your sources and as your mostly always right, do you ever feel any excitement or anticipation for these announcements? or does MILD take the buzz out if it a bit?

2022-09-02 20:47:34 +0000 UTCShould I buy Tachyum To get access to my own custom high performance CPUs that I cannot make without owning arm

2022-09-02 20:45:52 +0000 UTCIt's been a while since AMD and Intel both launched new generations of CPUs at about the same time. In addition, it would not surprise me if the CPUs released this year turn out to be remarkably similar in price and performance. If prices and performance are close, do you think that other aspects like motherboards and power consumption could become a bigger factor in purchasing decisions? (To be clear, I'm only talking about products coming this year, not 2023)
