Die Shrink 76: Nintendo Switch 2 Specs, CPU Release Anxiety, Reesie Update (Mail Bag 14)

Tom and Dan discuss our current expectations for the Nintendo Switch 2, thoughts on the rapid pace of performance increases, Reesie’s current health…and much more!
If Nintendo doesn't call it the Super Switch then I'm going to be severely disappointed. Especially if it's going to be a somewhat similar form factor and has the same functionality idea (handheld/traditional console hybrid)....albeit significantly more powerful.

Tom cmon man. In my case I have owned every mainstream console since Atari some work some don't so to play some of the classics, because I own them. Emulation is the only way to preserve that part of my gaming legacy. Let's face it Nintendo and companies like them aren't interested in us unless it makes them money.

Reader mail - but my short answer is actually this - I have owned plenty of consoles....I don't feel a need to emulate :p

thanks for the reply. You have an affinity for AAA games from what I hear in your webcast, do you have the time to play emulated games or do you have any time is probably the better question here?

Too early to say in GPU - Depending on what Nvidia does with a custom 4nm node and cooling, one could argue Lovelace is quite innovative - although I expect RDNA 3 will be far more impressive technologically.
What innovation am I most looking forward to? Idk, probably seeing what happens if a dev built a game from the ground up for Optane-Like memory over a CXL interface...I think that could be incredible.

Tom great listening to the DS76 and finally becoming a board member of this terrific show. What one technical innovation are you looking forward to seeing in action and what one company is bringing real technical force to the industry the most to the GPU or CPU space. Tom, keep up the good work. My best to the logo and your pup Reesie!
