Reader Mail for January Loose Ends

You know the drill!  It's time for a monthly (?) livestream where Tom will answer as many questions from below as he can!  Just use good grammar and be thoughtful.

Expect heavy discussion of the RTX 3050 launch, AMD's RDNA 2 refresh, and Intel ARC release dates...and anything else you guys want!

Also congrats on the microcenter sponsorship!

Do you think that with intel & amd stepping up the datacenter acceleration game, Nvidia is feeling a squeeze on the server market? Is this the reason why they want to develop their own better cpus?

But what is the best Pizza in Nashville and why is it Five Points?

Do you think this kind of pricing is hurting pc gaming in the medium and long term?

why did Sony and Microsoft release pro consoles in 2016/2017 instead of launching a new generation with ryzen/Vega in 2017/2018? We could be talking about the upcoming PS6 with zen 4 and rdna 3 in that alternate timeline!

No question, just wanted to say loving how the studio is evolving. Also, great job on the SM7B. Awesome pick.

How many AIBs are working with Intel for Arc cards? Are they all the usual suspects - Asus, MSI, Gigabyte - or are there some AIBs we would not expect?

Tom, The launch of the wet noodle XT by AMD seems to be an attempt at the "we need and we want anything" discreet GPU market that currently exists. A grope by AMD for more mind share and market share before Alchemist arrives on scene. It's reasonable to assume the current market conditions won't settle until demand and supply curve can meet for that awkward first date after what will be a 3 year break from each other. However, given that Intel will have some impact on the current conditions and the market share of Team Green and Team Red, are there any expectations of short-term impact by Intel into the market (price and volume effects)? Are there any expectations of impact on next gen releases in late 2022 and long term? Also, how was the Segura show?

Hey Tom I have two questions for you. 1. Do you think that Arc, specifically the Alchemist lineup, will be attacking price points strategically? or do you believe that Intel will just accept that gamers are OK with paying loads of money and also be OK with charging more? 2. In your 6500 XT video you mentioned that AMD has ways to make AIBs be able to hit $250~ and eventually work it's way down to $200 with a profit. If Intel is going to target specific price points, do you know if they have something like this in place? They seem to have the most to prove and giving fantastic value surely will help them. Thanks in advanced as always.

Do you believe Intel gpu's can/Will disrupt the duopoly in graphics cards we see now between red/green this year? Or remain a side note until their 3rd or even 4fh gen cards

HI Tom! Three questions: 1. Do you know if the RDNA2 refresh cards will have Reference cards? If not, is this AMD being like Nvidia and letting the market decide its real price? 2. Do you know what Die ARC Battlemage is going to be on? if don't know yet, what do you think it's likely going to be? 3. Is Nvidia going to counter Intel ARC and RDNA2 refresh with anything else, besides the announced RTX 3050? Do they even need to, given their insane mind share? Thank's for doing what you do! :D

Hey, Tom. Recently, I got my hands on two RTX 3060s that both have GA104 dies. This could just be a lucky accident on my end, but I suspect this means significant amounts of RTX 3060 supply is being replaced with GA104 silicon over the normal GA106 dies. Do you know if this is the case? If so, what implications does this have for future supply of other GA104 and GA106 based cards?
