I'm one of those strange people that can use the 5-15% extra performance :P I still play some older games like SC2 and Mechwarrior Online that need high IPC. (also play modern game but still love the old titles. SC2 custom maps are really hard on the cpu. Ryzen 5000 had 2x performance gains over the 3000 series when you have custom maps with a lot of units. Fps went from 7 to 14. Yes still to low but it was a major difference when playing. Mwo the same now some heavy maps can stay above 60 first dropping to 45. I will not be upgrading to Alder lake since I have a 5900X. But I would consider the Zen3 3D chips if they boost performance in those older games. Would be the final upgrade for me for this platform. After that I will be looking for Zen5/6 skipping first and probably second Gen DDR5 platforms so they can mature.

2021-11-06 11:53:21 +0000 UTCThanks for your take. My last CPU upgrade was prompted by Battlefield and I am interested in 2042. Should 2042 get good reviews (or steer that way eventually) I will probably for sure pull the trigger. 4 old cores just didn't cut it on the beta.
