Great episode! Funny story about old iPhone AI sucking, it actually was because Siri used the cloud, and since Apple was such a stickler about privacy, there wasn’t enough information to train a model to off-phone, so it was fundamentally handicapped. That was actually one of the main reasons Apple wanted a neural engine so bad. Siri’s still got some legacy issues, but AI stuff like face recognition to unlock the phone works instantaneously now on the last few iPhones, I assume because of the built out neural engine.
