Die Shrink Season 4 Voting [STANDARD]

I am preparing to start planning out a new set of Die Shrink subjects for you all....so what do you want us to talk about?

For this poll I thought I would make it simple with only a few options. There's a good chance we will do some of all of these, but I want to know which group you are most interested in.

And when you vote: please also leave a comment suggesting a specific subject that would fall into the category you voted for (we want ideas!).  Also feel free to heart ideas suggested by others below.

Comments

I voted for Focus on Various Technology or Scientific Subjects. Specifically, do you have an opinion on cloud gaming in this situation, where hardware is hard to obtain at reasonable prices?

Silvannos

I just finished the FPS episode at work today. Thinking how much they over look titanfall (1,2 & apex). but they where wiped at the time of the recording you can hear it in there voice. Yet they were still enthusiastic about it. Any way I voted for the games selection too, but for a different reason. New games are released more often therefore more material that crosses all the platforms. Than things market wise like the death of arcades and how cafe are popping up. Not saying I don't enjoy the other topics of hardware, news and leaks. Just this would be a more steady topic. Granted by Toms hints those are still deep waters.

Nola Owl

Hi Tom I voted (not-Focus, but) expand on Various Technology or Scientific Subjects, the computer has much more to offer then only current CPU, GPU and other standard component. The technology and science of development behind it is so interesting these day and its speeding up with daily development. Off course don't stop doing what your doing today, but expanding into the development and science behind it would be appreciated. Keep up the effort you and Dane and your guest give us even with content you already giving us. Thanks for the effort and hardwork you gave us till now.

I seem to have voted for the most unpopular option, but I do enjoy listening to you and Dan discuss games/genres. For example, episodes such as next gen shooter, hardcore gamer, Minecraft. (And hopefully soon: what would make a great coop horror game). As well as discussing past games/future games/ genres/ ideas for leading the genres into the future. I do also like the suggestion another had made about discussing game studios and what they are up to/ what qualities have they put forth towards their games/ are they going downhill? Ect ect. I personally enjoy the “more relaxed” podcasts between you and Dan with content I can relax to (mainly listen on my drive to and from work, or when I’m taking a break from studying). The banter feels like a conversation I would have with my own brother/ friends about gaming which I find makes me feel more involved. I do enjoy the technical shows but I only watch/listen when I am able to give it my full attention so if I need to look up material to understand the content, I can. If you could keep a mix of technical content and the more relaxed content that would be cool. Thanks for reading and for all the hard work! Can’t wait for the Half Life 2 episode! Are you gonna drag Dan into playing Back 4 Blood?

Savannah Favela

so, I really like leaks, i like hard data that the PR dept is unlikely to give you, pls don't give up on leaks completely

raywin27

I voted for specific hardware releases, but I think you should do tangential tech subjects as well. No reason you have to limit yourself to one or the other, and I'd like to hear both.

Janan Clowes

Here's another idea: if you end up cutting leaks from your main channel & podcast (which I personally hope you don't), would you consider doing leak die shrinks? Especially under the assumption that people subscribed are more likely to understand what a leak means.

Mia

I second what Matthew griffin said, I would love to get some inside scoops on studios past present and future.

JC Ferrell

Really enjoying the talks about chip mfg'ering, console design choices, game engine development, etc. I also 2nd someone's comment about getting some game dev studio stuff. Hopefully from a non-PC/Xbox centric studio (only because they seem to lack incentive to use new tech and like to keep costs down).

Clint Hoffman

Maybe some behind the scenes developer / game studio stuff? What it's like to actually build a game for multiple hardware configs and consoles.

+2

Ian Clifford

I'd really like to see a dive into non gaming applications of all this graphics power.

Paul Muston

I would love to see more coverage of Linux in general and the state of Linux gaming in particular. AMD seems to be making good strides in this space especially with their improved support for Linux drivers and VFIO (compared to Nvidia anyway). I’m not suggesting you turn into a Phoronix, but it would be good to see greater coverage of Linux.

Amiablechief

I’d love an episode or series of episodes that talked about not just marquee/tent pole games, but the studios themselves. Things like what is going on over at Bethesda (seem to be on a downward trend), CDPR and where do they go from here, how does Rockstar manage such quality? Or about the wax/wane of specific game types. RTS, RPG, FPS, etc.

Matthew Griffin

Get someone from Ampere Computing to talk about what they've learned about transitioning data centre workloads from x86 to ARM and speculate on what that could mean in the desktop world.

Rob Giltrap

+1 to some of these. I think MLID has a unique niche in the semiconductor space and should really embrace that - there's lots of other gaming podcasts but very few silicon podcasts. On the other hand there are also lots of podcasts about random cool tech, so to me VR/AR and wireless standards feel entirely out of scope for MLID, while quantum feels like a vaguely pertinent side quest.

Clive Chan

I hope that you at least try and err on the observational side.

I've been working on a Silicon photonics article for like 6 months now. Very interesting tech

Andrew S

I'd be interested in stuff not quite in the mainstream desktop segment, just stuff like ARM, RISC-V, maybe Imagination's newer GPU IP stuff. Could be server, mobile, etc. Just a little bit of spice to change up from the typical x86 and normal GPU players. Heck, even FPGA stuff but I'm much less versed in that.

Pattycakes

Would love to see a dive into up-and-coming silicon/postsilicon technologies, from GAAFET to graphene to integrated photonics. Any chance you can get someone from TSMC on the show? 😉 Any applications of custom silicon (i.e. machine learning, automotive, space) would be super interesting too though that can get a little niche I suppose.

Clive Chan

I know you try to avoid talking about science subjects that aren't even tangentially related to gaming and computers but there is a lot of interesting things that are loosely related like: The custom silicon and software in cars especially Tesla, -exotic computing like quantum computing, -semiconductors that are not silicon-based -future wireless standards like Wi-Max (sp?) or the myriad of frequencies / speeds under the umbrella of 5G - VR and augmented reality I really think augmented reality is going to be incredibly impactful in the near future

Andrew S

Thanks for the suggestion. Do note this though - there will be "opinion" and "critique" involved in any discussion of game design. A lot of it is unavoidably opinion/preference.

Moore's Law Is Dead

I would like to hear more about the logic and art of game design, not critique or review, not personal preference, broad trends you notice, why you think they have been implanted, specific examples where it worked, others where it failed.
