That sounds exactly Microsoft strategy to enter phones and tablets... they ended up buying Nokia and nothing is left of that mobile business now.

iirc, rumor was Intel was PAYING companies to take atoms. Even less cost than free(!!) And I believe they effectively ended up paying some partners hundreds or thousands of dollars per phone sold due to their pay to enter the market failing. The actual products (the silicon) was good. Just as you heavily go into.... software fell flat on it's face.
