Die Shrink 11: Gaming Fatigue

Are games more boring now...or are we?  It seems like many people are inadvertently treating gaming like a job instead of a hobby, and it's affect the zeitgeist.  We want to talk about this phenomena we ourselves feel we have come to terms with recently.

Never got that much into MMO's but I was super obsessed with Guild Wars in middle school when I had a huge amount of time. I'd say this game completely changed the formula on MMO's. Would never play an MMO these days just because of the time sink mainly but I wish there were more games that innovated in that genre.

Yeah, well said. I mean there are plenty of excellent games out now, especially in the past 3 years. Maybe this gen started slow, but I mean I don't remember the PS2 Gan having a remarkable start either. 2013-2015 was very much so a transitional period for gaming.

Yeah I mean me and Dan were thinking - "We don't have any problem with the state of gaming, wtf is going on with some complaining techtubers?" I mean it's not like a golden age right now, but it's better than other eras of games. Then we realized it's because we take breaks from gaming if we are bored, and we stopped caring about backlogs in 2019. Gaming isn't a job! Some years I am obsessed with movies, other years podcasts, and some years I do a ton of gaming.

It's funny how much I can relate to this podcast. I just picked up my 3DS the other night to start playing Fire Emblem again after years of ignoring it. I have a huge backlog of games on my PS4, Switch, and 3DS. I've put off gaming, with the exception of some Gears 4 and Gears 5 matches, long enough for Nintendo to Port over most of my (untouched) Wii U collection to the Switch. I had gotten the Wii U 3 years back and my library soon after, but I'd been focused on other things. Still, I look at my backlog with anticipation. Also, I'm getting a PS5 to add to my backlog woes. Steam also doesn't help me in that regard. Microsoft, however, is very helpful with its low volume of exclusives, so no worries in that regard.

That would be sick :)

imagine raytraced audio for even more easy room simulation & corrections for movie theaters, maybe they can use room reflection parametrics to simulate a better immersion in the sound aspect in theaters.
