The editing for my next episode is nearly done, so here are some screenshots of how it's looking!
Since Marcus Aurelius is the internet's favourite Stoic, we'll be starting with him!
We'll be doing a bit of a whistle-stop tour of the Roman Stoic philosophers including Seneca & Epictetus
And I've created some helpful examples to show how Stoic theories of judgement and emotion work in practice. Figuring out how to visually represent all this theory was a challenge, but I think I've struck a good balance
We'll look at Stoicism's attitude towards women, and how it can be critiqued through a modern feminist lens
I wanted to go more in depth than other videos and articles on Stoicism tends to though, so you'll also get to hear me speak some Ancient Greek! In fact, do any of you know what this phrase means? If you do, you'll know what my little sidebar is going to be about!
And we'll be examining the modern legacy of Stoicism too, including the part it plays in toxic masculinity
We'll examine some objections to Stoicism, including my favourite - the Romantic Objection!
And the Passivity Problem, which has some pretty serious political heft to it. We'll be reading Mark Fisher!
I chose Kelly to symbolise one aspect of the Passivity Problem and the way that Stoic ideas can be appropriated for corporate gain
I love the Kelly segment haha, it came together really well!
And if all that wasn't enough, we'll be looking at the modern Stoic movement too!
This edit has been challenging, if I'm honest. It's a difficult episode to pace and make creatively coherent. I've also not been very well this week, which always makes editing tough. But I think I've gotten it to a good place! I'm just waiting on one more bit of footage from an old friend who's going to be doing a cameo, an old friend who hasn't been seen on Philosophy Tube in many years...

Just finished watching Stoicism, think I'll need to watch it several more times. I feel like there may be wisdom in this production that can help me recover from my current phase of severe depression. Seeing how beautiful Abigail looks and sounds gives me some hope for my own transition.

Ancient Greece nerd here.😄 I'm looking forward to the explanation of this stoic influence on early christianity. Without knowledge of it, much of John makes little sense. I've studied Protestant Theology and still play with the thought of part-time writing a doctorate thesis about language theory in the theological debates of the 4th century. 🙈
