This was a very challenging piece for me, and it really took me some time to figure it out.

As usual, I just start off with a rough draft. This one was the most detailed and complex one I've ever done.

Then I do the final linework and add the base colours. I was very careful with choosing the colours, because even though blue and orange are complimentary colours, it's very easy for them to just look wrong. So my solution was to settle on a more desaturated orange.

The next step is to quickly figure out my lighting and shadows. This is a very quick step by setting the layer to multiply and choosing a cool colour.

Here is where I do more detailed shading and lighting. Remember that it's always important to not just change the tone of the colour when you do lighting, but also saturation as well, otherwise it comes off very flat. Remember that skin isn't just one colour, but various hues of different colours.

I played around with the Burn filter to get the lighting right and really bring a lot of contrast into the piece, This was the first time experimenting with this layer setting, but I realized that you have to be very careful with this method, because it's VERRRYYYY easy to over-do it
