The presentation of the show overall was uneven but I really enjoyed it. On the budget I just assume that most of these shows are expensive because of compressed development/filming time and how many effects shots are in them; and then in addition the sort of Hollywood money bloat involved. At least in this series they seemed to have more locations and practical sets work rather than leaning as hard on the Volume. Most of the quibbles I have with this show could be fixed in editing, something I may actually try my hand at. It was also hella cool to get a more nuanced view of the Jedi and a bit more structure for the other force traditions. I think that is an aspect of Star Wars that Filoni has done a lot to enhance in all the shows he has a hand in. Sad to see Sol go out like that but he was a very well rendered character. He was obviously compromised from the start and seeing the reason for that, and the depth of that wound, especially in a Jedi, was very refreshing. I also feel like he might be the most powerful Jedi we have seen in a martial sense that wasn't something from a game like Force Unleashed, the Cal Kestis series, or that Mace and Yoda defense of Coruscant scene in the Gendy T. animated shorts, where jedi seem in superhumanly powerful. Anyone who has been paying attention knows the Jedi were never able to live up to the standard the they set for themselves. In that way the Sith code is correct "Peace is a lie" but they are equally wrong because there is more than just passion. Suppressed passion, compassion, desire etc, is noxious but having a healthy care and attachment can be an incredible boon as well. You can't repress all of these core parts of being a living sentient being and expect people to come out unscathed mentally. You would need to find a balance as opposed to the binary thinking that most force traditions seem to lean towards. I can't think of single jedi who wasn't a walking contradiction, the closest to balanced was probably Qui-Gon because he sort of figured that out but the council seemed to dismiss his point of view and see it as a flaw. Or maybe some the oft reviled concept of "grey jedi" like Jolie Bindo from KOTOR. Anyway thought provoking show for fans who aren't wrongheaded weirdos. Also great to watch with you and Major Dad.
