It can be an unflinchingly cruel show and it goes out of its way to subvert a trope. This also kinda of reset my expectations of Mizu. The typical reaction from a hero character would to sacrifice your passion to do the right thing but Mizu will not be deterred. The one time she showed mercy with the boy is now going to cause nothing but problems for everyone. Some of the Akemi travel scenes reminded me of the cool scrolling background used in Banner Saga. Not sure if you know they game but it is a pretty good little game.
