Either way, we really enjoyed the first episode, and are looking forward to continuing!

Excellent! Any excuse to rewatch is welcome and especially with you two. You usually have great insights that add something on the rewatch. As a mixed race person myself I find the themes familiar. I am older so I predate the current trend towards inclusion. Most of my life there was a feeling of being othered two fold. As a big old nerd I also like the mythologization of this era of Japanese history and their take on the prohibition of European influence from the nation. I loved the dual insult of Mizu beating Taigen and the Shindo dojo. Not only a half-breed but unbeknownst to most, a woman. Reminds of that line from Andor about the hubris the dominant power not even being able to conceptualize someone being brazen enough to just walk in like they own it. Mizu having a sword and being skilled with it made it impossible for them see a woman. An interesting take on the baked in misogyny and racism of the time and really all times. I don't the sex parts as they are a device, trying to make a point in their own right but they are awkard. It was oddly refreshing to see a random floppy penis casually tossed across the screen...a sentence I didn't think I would every type but there it is. As you guys called out multiple times, it is visually stunning and reminiscent of Ghost of Tsushima which I never actually finished. I think I will go re-install it and try to correct that. Excited for the next episode with you two. Netflix has been doing some of the best adult animation I have seen in years, including most of the modern Anime I have seen out there.
