Looks like they’re showing that Vecna was able to cross over from the upside down to our reality, and has been influencing things in the series in the shadows the whole time. It makes sense that a being that feeds off of people in Hawkins would be extremely interested in a group of humans trying to build a bridge between our reality and the upside down. Perhaps Elevens massacre of the other subject children was actually instrumented by Vecna?
