As to your conversation about nitpicking over plot holes and consistency errors, there’s definitely an element of the critic/reaction community who takes it too far and takes away from the playfulness of stranger things messing around in the big sandbox of 80’s pulp Steven Kingesque faux nostalgia. Oh and don’t get me started on trying to “fix” Star Wars… because, oh laddie…….there…there be dragons…

Based on your discussion at the end, I am thinking you might have missed where Lucas actually brought them. It was definitely not at the Lakehouse where Eddie was hiding. Lucas may had some cowardly moments in the episode but in the end he didn't betray his friends. BTW the stretchy pants looked so comfy, I had to put mine on as well watching the reactions.
