Well I think Erwin's speech was the most hopeful/down to earth thing I've ever heard and the beauty is that the meaning does not reside in their deaths directly. In a way it's like it's because they cannot find a an instant meaning to their sacrifices they will give up on it for the time being and trust thei comerades to find it later on.
