Yeah, I'm watching it with two friends right now, one of them says she loves the show and has seen the whole thing 5 times and her boyfriend is watching for the first time, and she hates season 4 because of all the politics, and I tried to sell it to her boyfriend at first by saying it's really deep, political, philosophical, well-written, great action, incredible characters, amazing music, etc, and he groaned when I said "political." I think people hear that and assume it means old white dudes arguing over budget cuts, but honestly, it's really annoying because that's obviously not what it would mean in a fantasy show about a shadow government hiding the secrets of a fantasy universe with giant zombies. In a tv show, "political" refers to the fact that a fictional world functions and changes in the same way the real world does. If a human being suddenly transforms into a giant monster and goes on a rampage, you'd better believe the government is going to detain him and figure out what to do with him. The courtroom scene in season 1 was an amazing scene, but oh, is it not great anymore because it was "political" ? Like wtf do people even want? For that to NOT happen? That wouldn't make sense and would make the story less believable, all for the sake of not "boring" people, even though that scene was the opposite of boring. Like people think they know what they want, and they really don't. You can sit someone down, have them watch this incredible piece of fiction, and they'll complain because "there was politics, but I wanted to see big dudes fighting." It makes me really annoyed that I have to share the space of "Attack on Titan fans" with these neanderthals. I know that's extremely rude, but it gets to a point where I feel like, if you are above a certain level of intelligence, you have a responsibility to be able to appreciate good art instead of just seeking out mindless entertainment everywhere you go. These two friends of mine love Game of Thrones, ATLA, Korra, and the boyfriend loves Tokyo Ghoul, and if you combine what are great about those, what you get is: great characters, interesting dialogue and political maneuvering, great world-building, great action, and essentially ALL of the things that AoT also has. Yet somehow people have this bizarre notion in their heads that because the titan fights ARE badass, that is now the ONLY good thing about the show and it's all they want to see. Makes me want to punch a wall sometimes.

I don’t understand why some people don’t get the importance of this season. Exposing the corrupt government / politics, also learning WHY they want Historia and Eren and the significance of the church has been hinted at for a while before this.

I love this episode and your reaction to the ending was gold :) this season is something else so I can't wait to see your speculation and theories. On regards to the Eren not being able to transform well, it's not explained but Eren had already transform several times before he colapse in the episode hence why he looked so thin.

yeah Hange and Moblit are great. Idk why but I really like Moblit and Armin's blue shirts, bit random but I always notice them when the season transitions from 2 to 3

Ahh what you said in the beginning made me so happy lmao. I still remember the feeling I got when I first saw AOT, waiting for every episode to come out. I don’t think I’ve ever felt that in any other animated show so far (closest probably is in Arcane, which I hope you guys would also react to!!!) You guys are in for a ride!!!

This is an interesting point in the show for a lot of people, because as you've suspected, this part of the story is a bit more human vs. human focused than we've gotten before, and surprisingly I know a lot of people that don't like this part because of that. I think if you've been paying attention and if you actually appreciate good storytelling, as I know for a fact you guys do, the entire POINT of the show, as Kat pointed out, is ultimately a human conflict and Titans are merely one element in that conflict. I legit have one friend who is really into zombie games and that's why he originally liked this show (kind of feels like fighting giant zombies), but he doesn't like the fact that this part has less "zombies" in it because that's what he originally liked about the show. It's really bizarre to me and I think entirely misses the point. That said, yes, this "left turn" storytelling-wise does in fact have a point to it and is very well connected to everything that has happened thus far. My stance has always been: this world feels convincing to me, and I feel like the characters are real people in this real-feeling world, so whatever happens to them doesn't matter to me content-wise, it just has to make sense with what's already happened and I'll be along for the ride.
