A YouTube Short as a little experiment
Added 2021-11-21 11:18:57 +0000 UTCI've decided to make and upload an obstacle course videos as a YouTube Short, just as a little experiment. To see what kind of views it will get compared with a normal one, as YouTube Shorts use a different algorithm compared with the normal one.
Since Shorts don't earn you any revenue at all (unless your videos gets millions of views and you get a small payment from the Shorts Fund), this is just an attempt to see if a video like this can help to find more new people and help grow the channel a bit faster.
If this video does the same or worse than the normal horizontal ones, I see no reason to make more Shorts, so we'll see what happens.
I'm halfway done or so with the video now, so it should hopefully be completed and uploaded tomorrow. I don't want to release it to close to Blue's Castle on Friday, so I'll just upload it as soon as I'm done with it. The normal/planned release schedule won't be affected. π

For normal videos, a certain part of the video needs to be viewed for it to count as a view. Shouldn't it be the same for a short?

2021-11-21 17:14:23 +0000 UTCThat's a nice idea! But for the number of views brought, i'm not really sure of its accuracy, because people mostly skip the Shorts they see. It still counts as a view but the viewer didn't give anything about the video they just skipped.

2021-11-21 14:12:48 +0000 UTCMaybe. From what I have seen from Shorts is that it is an even bigger lottery than publishing a normal video. Very similar videos from the same uploader can get very different results.
