Fabula Ultima: Villains

Yesterday, the Italian RPG journalist duo MorgenGabe published a Facebook post and an associated YouTube video dealing with how to create a Villain for your tabletop RPG campaign. I'm a big fan of theirs (and also support their Patreon page), and took part in the ensuing conversation.

Now, my usual answer to anyone asking me "How do I make a good fantasy RPG villain?" is simply "Dude, go watch Wakfu season 1. Nox is great."
(that's where the opening GIF comes from - that kick-ass temporal robo-mummy is Nox, the main antagonist of the show. I think you can watch it on Netflix!)

But back to the point of this post: as good as that answer may be, I can't write that in an RPG book - and that's why you might still be left wondering: how do Villains work in Fabula Ultima? Did you provide some advice on how to build them?

Yes, Nox. I will. Chill out, man.

Attached to this post you will find Fabula Ultima's advice on what I believe makes for a good JRPG-ish antagonist. One might argue villains are actually the most important element in any JRPG - they're often much more interesting than the heroes (though Fabula Ultima definitely goes against this, putting heroes and villains on the same level of importance) and tend to have the entire plot revolve around their desires and ambitions.
... also, apparently everyone in the world knows the position of their secret dark fortress.

Hope you'll enjoy the read!

And now I'll go back to fixing rules and reworking stuff - the updated version of Chapter 3: Press Start will soon be available to all Patrons, but Hunters and Shamans can already take a look at the Work In Progress files in our shared Google Drive folder!
