Runaway to the Stars: Page 136

This log is about how in the goddamn centaurs breathe and talk. I did animations of this 3 years ago but the anatomy has changed a bit since then. I had to rearrange some pipes in the head. I've been told centaurs look top-heavy while quadrupedal but it's kind of an illusion, since their upper torso is mostly air.

Chapter 5 pages coming... soon, after I finish doing research on building remodeling.

"Buzzy and surprisingly high pitched" So what you're saying is that she sounds like Birdo

Kenneth Crooker

All of the detail you pack into literally every aspect of your worldbuilding never ceases to amaze me. You're probably one of my biggest inspirations for my own projects, I just ordered a drawing tablet the other day so I can get started on my own art journey!

About half of this was answered in one of the AMAs - I think the most recent one, 3? And illegal GMHs seem to end up largely getting various accommodations for the disabilities they have - we haven't seen an intentionally made illegal GMH (i.e. one made against code on purpose), but Guiomar and Gillie are both unintentional illegal GMH due to gigantism in Guiomar's case and her deafness and other unintentionally mixed traits in Gillie's. Guiomar is a lawyer with a focus in GMH cases for a reason, lol

This is one of the most beautiful and well-designed pages you've posted so far! I'm just enthralled with the soft blue shading on the centaur body, the way the diagrams are laid out, and how clean and functional everything looks. Really feels like I'm reading a scientific illustration for species that doesn't exist!

What was medical care like for Talita? I imagine shipping medicine from the Centaur home world is just as expensive as shipping meat from there. Would there be any issues with her immune system since she didn't come into contact with many germs from her home planet? Also I'm curious, what happens to illegal GMHs?

Erika Spooner

I remember you posting a video of Talita talking, and I was indeed surprised at how high-pitched her voice was! I also like her nervous tick of putting her hand on her throat.

Pavel Lishin

It's relatively unique to their clade, though some relatives (and their ancestors) have separated olfactory nostrils. It got longer the more specialized it became for language and expression.

Jay Eaton

It occurs to me, do any other creatures on Centaur planet have similar trunk structures? The ones you've shown so far all seem to just have regular nostrils.

The lungs have a diaphragm setup. I haven't designed it yet but it's probably fairly similar to ours, since they have a ribcage in their lower torso. Typo corrections are fine. I'm very bad at spotting them without spellcheck (which CSP doesn't have.)

Jay Eaton

Yes, and no. The rear torso brain is a design choice I made when I was 19 and worldbuilding for fun, and I consider unrealistic now, but it's too deep in the fabric of the design to retcon.

Jay Eaton

So sensible to not mix your airways and foodways in the one mouth where you can choke on your spittle! I love their vocal airways so much C: Do they have a diaphragm for their big abdominal lungs? Abdominal viscera powering respiration when running is the cleverest thing evolution did to horses, it's neat to see here. Centaurs are such running machines. (Also 'surprisingly' at the very end of the text is missing an 'r', not sure if pointing out typos is a thing you find helpful?)

Zoe Feigen

thanks

Jay Eaton

I'm guessing the brain is in the torso then? Does having a much longer optic nerve affect their vision at all?
