Biotech is integrated into "regular" technology but mostly in invisible ways, like the water and air filtration systems, and being used to manufacture foods and building material. I don't think sophonts in this setting (besides scuds, who are a years-off spoiler) have done much with neuron computers because they have their own unique disadvantages (don't run on electricity, need constant power or they'll die, need clean water, can get infections, is more easily damaged by high G). Whether or not people have been augmented depends on your definition of that. Do vocal implants in bug ferrets count or humans with microgravity tolerance gene therapy count?

The scenario with the Runaway crew is unusual but not unheard of, especially in situations where no one was looking for the deceased (or they were deliberately hiding). Talita has probably encountered the occasional dead missing person before.

Also considering the size of servers would a culture of neurons or another kind of biological computer be able to the same job with way less needed space? Also was gene editing ever used to augment people?

Also, I guess the plot thickens regarding why the Runaway is in the state it is in: what other bureaucratic bits were missed or even, perhaps, deliberately omitted? And, to be kinda morbid . . . it really doesn't seem like there was any cleanup on the Runaway post-impact, was there. How often do spacecraft recycling workers have to deal with funeral arrangements for the crew of a destroyed ship?
