Wondrous Tools [Ideas & Design]

The work on Wondrous Tools theme is well underway. We are already invigorated due to our most potent brews, next are the Cartographer's Tools and their associated creature – The Mischief Maker. While waiting for this set, we come to you with another batch of design sketches and notes to look forward to after we have already mapped out the realm of cartography.

There will be two Smith's Tools sets! We've already done a Smithing item in the past, that was called the Master Smith's Hammer. It's an older item that doesn't really hold up that well when compared to our newer items, so we decided we would completely rewamp it and connect it to this theme. We want this item to be the quintessential magical Smith's Tools item, meaning that its primary focus is on the blacksmithing craft without any additional flavour or extra spice. This allows us to make the second smithing item we prepared for this theme somewhat more specific in its flavour.

The first set is paired with a blacksmith monster statblock that doesn't need to be only a dangerous foe, but might assist the party if they find an ally in him.

We might have finished our Scions of the Fabled Kingdom Zine, but we are not yet done with the theme of dreams in any way. You might have already seen some of our Dreamweave items, namely for example the Dreamweave Veil  and we would like to expand upon these sort of items with our Weaver's Tools and the Dream Needle, an item that might give cloth woven with it some dreamlike/surreal capabilities.

And with it comes the Somnolent Spinstress, creature that lingers in the spaces where the waking world and the Land of Dreams meet. In such places, the threads of reality are loose, and the Spinstress uses them to weave her dens. These appear like places of warmth and comfort, but only so that unsuspecting and tired creatures are lulled into a false sense of security, only so that she can make them her prey. So be careful not to adventure while exhausted, since your drowsy mind might be all it takes to create an opening for The Spinstress, and her lullaby.

As we've said earlier, we already had items and a creature that we wanted to revise and update for Artist's Supplies theme. The items form old Rudok's tavern we are working with are the Artist's Sketchbook and the Quill of the Creator. You might be already familiar with their gist if you've been following us for a while, or you can find them in our archives. These items were thematically connected to the haunted painter known as The Künstler whose creativity and imagination turned into a curse when they started to become real.

We shall take all three of these creations and update them, revise them, and find ways how to interwtine them together mechanically. And Künstler will of course have some fancy loot as well.

The second Smith's Tools item will be the Tongs of Thousand Forms. Tool made out of an amorphous shapechanging material called the Shaper's Mercury, which allows it to imbue items created when using it with similar shapechanging properties. It might even allow creatures that change their shapes or forms to retain their gear, as who says that it now cannot change with them.

The creature connected to these tongs is a viscious aberration capable of changings its shape, providing it with an incredible amount of diverse attacks and strategies it can use and switch between to overpower its adversaries.

And as a bit of a reminiscence, here you can look at all the Brewer's Supplies that we have made lately. We hope that they bring a cask of reverly to your table.

We would like to invite you all to our Discord where we will be happy to answer any questions or feedback for these ideas and designs. We are happy for any discussion, suggestions, anything you have in mind really. Pavel will be glad to talk about anything related to the visual design and how he tried to create a cohesive theme for each tool set, and if you have any questions about the stats, mechanics, worldbuilding or the themes in general, feel free to ping me @rudok. Here is an invite link for newcomers.
