My Other Half - A story of Love and Revenge: Chapter 13

Haru

As I finished up talking with Yumi, I saw Akari coming over; she sat down next to me and cuddled into my side. She looked depressed as if something she didn’t want to hear was spoken to her. With how he was talking earlier about not having much time left, it probably has something to do with that.

“Mom, he wants you to go be with him.” Akari said with a low tone as I felt something wet drop on my arm. I looked down as more droplets of water fell. Hearing a low whimper come from Akari, it hit me she was crying. I pulled her in close and wrapped my arms around her, doing my best to give her the comfort she needed. Yumi was looking at Akari with a soft expression.

I watched on as Yumi, who now also had a sad face, got up and started walking towards the bed. Putting myself in their shoes, it would be extremely hard to deal with. Having to say goodbye to someone you love would be extremely difficult. We must both get stronger so we can live long lives. Never allow the other to fall!

“Haru, we must get stronger! The humans, elves, and demons have now made us their mortal enemies. For what those three races did to us, they must pay!” Akari said with venom. I saw her small hand grip so tightly that a little blood seeped out from the pressure.

My feelings towards these words are still, for the most part, indifferent because I didn’t grow up here. But when I see the passion in her eyes, it gives me the drive to make her wish come true. If Akari wants to bring hell to all those who did this to her home, then my role as her mate is to see it come to fruition.

“I’m with you all the way, Akari.” I kiss her on the cheek. “We should start training hard tomorrow and get ready for taking back our kingdom in the future.” Looking at Akari, I saw both her fists close tightly once again.

“My father had mentioned how we have to be ready to rule. Haru, I hope you’re prepared for some big responsibilities.” She tilted her head up to look into my eyes. “I know you can do it, and I will be right with you.”

“That sounds like a lot more than I can currently handle.” I said, unsure of taking on that much authority, “I can give it a go if that’s what you truly want.” Managing my own life in my old world was hard enough. The idea of having a whole kingdom to take charge of is beyond my comprehension.

“Don’t worry, Haru; I’m sure it won’t be anytime soon. We will have to take back our land before anything can become official. There is plenty of time for us to learn our roles for the future.” Akari took my hand and cupped her own around it.

She leaned in and placed her soft lips against mine. The sweetness of her taste was shooting through my body as our wet tongues licked at each other. We both entered our own little world and became enthralled with each other’s warmth. I started to put my hand up her shirt, not thinking about anything other than Akari in front of me. That’s when we heard a loud sound, causing us to stop instantly and look in that direction.

Both of Akari’s parents were staring right at us; we separated quickly, looking in the opposite direction of each other. I was being glared at by her father, and the mother was just sighing.

“It’s great that the both of you care so much about each other, but please think of the time and place.” Yumi said as she was shaking her head.

“I’m very sorry for not thinking. Maybe we should go and leave you two alone?” I said as I stood up and bowed my head in apology.

“Yes, we could go find our room and give you two some alone time.” Akari said with vigor as she jumped up next to me, probably also wanting out of this situation.

Leaving the room would be the best course of action to achieve that. I mean, there is a man over there on his deathbed, and we were making light of the situation. But you can also look at it another way; Akari was looking for comfort. Her emotions are all messed up right now, and she was looking for a release. We both stood there waiting for a response until Yumi waved her hand, signaling for us to leave the room.

The both of us hurried out and made our way down the hallway to the front of the large mansion. There were many guards and maids along the way, who all bowed towards us. I’m sure it was because I’m with the princess because they would have no idea who I am yet. But with Aurora pretty much knowing the future, my role is probably already well known. I guess I will need to come to terms with what this life is going to expect out of me.

As we were standing there in the foyer of the mansion, a maid approached, “Would you like me to show you to your rooms?” A young girl asked in a maid outfit with rabbit ears.

“What do you mean by rooms?” Akari asked.

“We have prepared rooms for both of you.” She said with a solemn tone.

“We only need one room!” Akari said with force in her words.

“U-umm… Okay, please follow me to your room.” The maid said with some fear in her eyes.

The maid walked off, signaling us to follow her as Akari and I locked hands, moving in her direction. Not being able to cuddle with each other was something the both of us refused to give up. So there was no way I would accept a separate room. I’m sure her father had something to do with this. Yumi didn’t seem like the type that would try to keep us apart. The idea of being told what to do never sat well with me. Maybe being a king of a kingdom in the future is my calling after all?

As we entered the massive room that will now be ours, I looked around and thought how it’s ten times bigger than my old one. A desk, bed, and dresser were about all I could really fit in my room from the other world. We go over to a couch and sit down, leaning into each other.

“Would you like me to get you something to eat?” The maid asked as if reading our minds.

“Yes, bring us a feast.” Akari said with excitement.

“Right away, your highness.” The maid bowed and left the room.

“Your highness.” As I repeated that and looked at Akari, “It didn’t truly feel real that you were royalty until right now, hearing them say your highness.” I said with a smirk.

“That’s also your future, Haru, so you better get used to it.” Akari said while sticking out her tongue.

“I guess that’s true, and I still can’t believe that’s going to be my future.” I said as I’m still in denial over ruling a kingdom. But at the same time, I do not hate the idea as much as I used to, “How many people did your father rule over?”

“Hmm… a rough estimate would probably be around a million people.” She grabbed her chin, deep in thought, “But that was only in and around the capital. There is much more land even further out; it’s pretty hard to get an accurate number.

“Wait… you’re telling me that out of all that population, only the little amount in this town survived? There are probably at most five to six thousand people here.

“I’m sure many are scattered all over. A lot of our women and children were taken to the Human Kingdom. After we take back what's ours, our people will probably make their way back.” Akari said with confidence.

“That’s true; I guess the two main goals for our future are to get stronger and attack those who stole what doesn't belong to them and reclaim it. We’re going to be severely lacking in numbers, though.” I said with hesitation in my voice.

“Once we’re both combat ready, their numbers will fall before us, I guarantee it.” She said with a high level of confidence that seemed to do the trick in giving me more certainty in our victory.

As our conversation continued, a few maids entered our room with many platters of food. Pretty much everything you would expect from a high-end Beast Kingdom menu, meat as far as you can see and many types. It’s not that I dislike it by any means, but hopefully there will be a bit of variety in the future. I guess it’s something to work on when I rule over this Beastkin race in the future.

Yumi

“Ryo, what do you think of Haru?” I asked curiously. My first impression of him with Akari was a match made in heaven. They both seem to get along very well and obviously care a lot about each other. To think they would have so much love for each other so soon to have that kind of display in front of us.

“I’m sure Akari is making up for lost time because of my mistake being to controlling over her. He has a lot of potential considering he's one of the rarest types of elemental magic someone can awaken. Lightning has a lot of possibilities and is one of the strongest types. Once Haru can harness his full capabilities with that element, he would be unrivaled.” Ryo said with a hint of pride, as he was happy Haru was his daughter's chosen one.

“I’m glad you feel the same way I do. I can see great things in the future for both of them.” I said with all the confidence in the world that I will guide them down the right path. “Looking at how they were with each other earlier, it reminds me of us when we first met.”

“That’s true; a bond between mates is a powerful thing. Even though I was annoyed by their actions, I can’t really hold it against them.” Ryo said with regret at the thought of not being able to hold Yumi or his daughter in the future.

“Yes, I can remember your father having the same annoyed look on his face about our actions.” A life without Ryo is going to be a very tough thing to swallow. But he did what he thought was right and understood the consequences.

“I’m going to miss you very much, Yumi.” He pulled me into a hug as I put my arms around him.

I felt a tear starting to rain down from my eyes; it was a constant stream. I'm going to miss this big idiot who risked his life for our people. If only we could have found a way to stop the demon army from taking advantage of our drawn-out fight with the other two kingdoms. When we finally make all those pay for what they did to us, it will be the day I finally let go of all this regret. We must pay them back ten times more than we received.

“We will see each other again; I know it. So don’t worry about me, Ryo. But I’m going to make you wait for quite some time with having to guide those two in the future. I refuse to die and pass on until everything is set back into its rightful place. That’s the best way I can honor your memory.” I said with conviction in my heart.

“That sounds like a great goal, and I wholeheartedly believe you will make it a reality. With how Haru’s movements were earlier, he has never had any type of combat training. So make sure to run him through the ringer and get him into shape.” Ryo said with an evil smirk.

“Yes, I was noticing the same thing about him, and I do plan on training him personally with everything I have.” I gave back just as evil of a smile.

We spent the rest of the night talking about our life together and the fond memories we made. Losing a bond that was imprinted is a very emotional and painful thing to go through. Once your mate loses their life, you will always feel as if a piece of yourself is missing. I would come to learn that pain firsthand during the middle of the night, when Ryo passed.
