It's TIME baby

You know, this one was fun haha. This may be the first video I've done in years where I wasn't stressed during making it. It was light, it was smooth, it was... another adjective that you could use to describe a fruit smoothie. I like it.

I hope you do too! Not much to say about this one other than I'm very happy with it and all I really hope is that 1) you guys enjoy and 2) that it does even just slightly better analytically than the last one haha. I just want improvement, would love to see nature heal here.

But either way, you know I'll be back for more ๐Ÿ˜‰

One more video, then it's BACKLOG viddy time y'all. 2025 is entering it's dusk!

Yeah I totally get that, at some point the frog does in fact die when you start to dissect it. It's affected me over the years when I'm just trying to unwind and play something to relax. Hard to turn the analysis brain off but when also it does enrich the experience many times! As far as sacred ground for me, it's game music haha. I think the second I peek into frequencies and leitmotifs and the different components of how it affects your brain, it'll sour. I know a few fun facts about it, but looking too deeply into it would bother me. I think I'll just stick with my "ahhh yes the sounds produce the good brain chemicals for me" haha

Hey congratulations! Happy for you! Though it is funny to hear that the Madagascar "well this sucks" meme is valid hahaha. That's exactly how I look at it regarding all the older videos, I talked about those concepts then, many current viewers haven't heard of them, and I don't feel bad recycling some of that because there is a ton of context and application that wasn't mentioned back then, ya know? Yeah I've gotten quite a bit of feedback on the Wet Nurse fight and I totally agree, I love that there are so many interpretations of it. To me that's what makes it so special, all that subtext and lore just adds to much seasoning to it. Thanks as always!

Massive W as always Daryl. From the title I thought I might finally hit my "might not enjoy this one too much but I'll watch it cause it's my G Daryl" video but I was pleasantly surprised with the direction you took it in. If it had been purely about the broader aura farming conversation, I think that might have been my threshold for "I've indulged in over-analysis of media, let's not". There's too much peeking behind the curtain of my favorite things going on around here. Mind you, my YT feed consists of half Science channels like SciShow, real Engineering, etc and half videogame design and analysis essays like yours, so I'm a certified curtain peeker. I love knowing how stuff works, but it has taken it's toll on my moment to moment experience with certain aspects of games. I will insist on watching your stuff even if I'm at my limit on a topic because you always have something great (and insightful/novel) to say. All that being said, I imagine you have a different and probably more complex relationship with this problem as a creator. I would love to know if there's any topic you have avoided/will avoid because doing the research/thinking too much about the thing will lessen your enjoyment of the thing. What do you think just "works" for you and you're content with not making a video about/not watching an essay on?

Wow, I can't believe it's already time for another backlog video. I finished mine a couple of weeks ago- not including anything that has yet to be released and after deleting several, "Meh, it's okay" titles- and I've been feeling that image of the arctic wasteland from the first backlog video. It's like, "Okay, I did it. Now what do I do?" But that's next month and this video deserves its time in the spotlight. :) Congratulations on putting together a shorter video that was still very dense with examples. I particularly appreciated the call-back to "primacy and recency"- it's really cool how the Psych of Play catalogue is kind of like DTG 101, and the current videos are building on a lot of those concepts without needing to go into massive detail about them. I was very interested to hear your interpretation of the Wet Nurse fight, and I'd never known that there was an extra scene with the ghost afterward if you headed back down the elevator. It's always fascinating to see what other people got out of a story, all the more so because there doesn't have to be a right or wrong interpretation. Stories are mirrors in many ways. It's also good to see that Yakuza has always been as over the top as Like a Dragon and Infinite Wealth are, LOL. Have a wonderful start to the week! Backlog update hype starts now. :)
