Quick Update

Hey everyone! First of all, thank you so much for your thoughts and feedback on the weird YouTube view... thing. A handful of folks mentioned a video by Josh Strife Hayes and after watching it, it seems like the restricted view thing isn't as big of an issue as I thought. When I go back and look at videos before the restricted view became a thing it seems that I don't even really have much of a pre-18 y/o audience which makes me feel much better.

Plus, it sounds like YT only really defaults the filter to on if it thinks you are under 18, so it really may not be that big of a deal for me personally. That said, sounds like the real culprit here is how YT is interacting with ad blockers. Basically, since august 10th, on PC browsers specifically, it's as if views while ad blockers are turned on aren't "counting" as actual views. However, the monetization still seems to be working. So on this most recent video, its at roughly 120K views with $450 in ad revenue, while another one I made over a year ago with 130K views only has $250 in revenue. So I reckon the parallel world video actually has more views than it shows? Maybe?

Either way, this is truly an issue that I can't really affect at this point. But it's good to know it exists and I'm sure by the next round of YouTube VS Ad Blockers we will run into another hilarious technical issue haha.

But seriously, thank you all so much for your support and help understanding this. I'm going to try to not marinate on it and move forward now. This next video awaits, I have script to finalize, and I have a voiceover to do tomorrow! 😈

Glad to know it's probably not that bad πŸ™Œ especially since that video is an absolute banger, probably one of my favorites on your channel so I hope you're not letting this keep you down πŸ”₯

Although monetization is not affected currently, I wonder if YouTube not counting (a huge amount of) ad-blocked views still has consequences like less exposure and not pushing the videos to more people since the algorithm still might interpret the lower overall counted views as "this video/channel is not as popular (anymore)". also for potential sponsors who don't engage below a certain threshold (not sure how sponsorships work, though). who knows. but everyone seems to be in the same boat currently.
