Kat clowning around (Exclusive 3/25)

This just felt right for the character of Kat -- dressing up in a put-together clown outfit for the hell of it, to post on her Twitter page.

While it may not look like much, sneakers and discarded shoes in general can be really time-consuming to detail. They don't always require complicated shading or rendering -- but getting those shapes right with the sketch, and then finalizing those shapes with the lineart can take a very long time. Shoes are one of those things where, if a small shape is off, or a curve is wrong, it can throw off the whole look of the shoe. Running sneakers like these are flexible, but they tend to hold a certain shape even when not worn, so getting that just right demands a lot of attention. But it was worth it for this drawing, because I'm really happy with how they help settle Kat into the scene. I'm also a big fan of the "I casually just took my shoes off" context.

What are some little details in art, pinup or otherwise, that when you see them, it just pulls the whole thing together for you? Some little detail that, while not necessary, is always a pleasant and welcome surprise?
