Off The Grid & Recipes

I'm going to make a quick version of some updates to the Off-The-Grid items so that playing on a lot with that trait is more manageable. Some of these will be a public release because the system is so broken, but others will be patron releases.

Once I get these basic fixes/mods done I really want to work on an Off-The-Grid system that allows you to use all your appliances/plumbing but requires regular maintenance like a water pressure tank and water supply (well or spring). Have you all had a chance to play around with this lot trait yet? What do you guys think of it? What would you like to see changed/fixed?

Also, which recipes already in-game do you want to see work with Off-the-Grid?  Remember, the should be recipes that you would cook if you were trying to survive/live off grid :)

Seconding solar power- I know I'd use that even in non-Off-the-Grid lots. (One of my saves has a definite Lunar Lakes/Oasis Landing theming to it, which working solar panels would fit right into!)

My idea's would be: a wind turbine and or solar power for electricity ( that you could build at the woodworking bench ) and or a generator, ( you could add buyable gas or propane at the beach supplies store/vender thing lol ). Also a water collector for pluming and maybe have one with a water filter that your sim could get water from the ocean or from the fresh water area for when it hasn’t rained for a while ( both could be craftable from the woodworking bench ). Other ideas are: a sun oven, a food drying rack, a wood burning stove that can be used for cooking, solar fridge, icebox cooler that works like a fridge ( maybe have buyable ice at the beach supplies store thing to keep it cool ), wringer washer, drumi washer, small single outhouse and a compost toilet. A canning station would be a good idea too. I know icemunmun has made this mod but they haven’t updated it in a long time. There’s a lot of really fun things you could do with some of these ideas, if you have the time of course. But for example, for like the wind turbine, you could have no wind days and your sim would get a negative moodlet, same goes for the solar power but with cloudy no sun days. You could get positive moodles too, like just the right breeze for when your sim is happy from the wind turbine working well and for the solar panel you could have thanks to the sun. I’m just making up names lol you could call them anything lol. You could do similar things with the water collector like a stress moodlet when there hasn’t been rain for a couple days and you don’t have the water filter yet. And once you do have the water filter you could have a sore moodlet from carrying all that water. You could have the water filter breakdown and have to be repaired periodically ( handiness skill ) and if you sim is taking a shower or something similar when the water filter breaks down you could get a bad moodlet for nasy water or something. You of course would get positive moodlets too for when everything is going well. With the sun oven, drying rack and wood burning stove you could have new foods and cooking recipes. Like sun oven chicken and stove top stew and you could have jerky and sun tried fruits and veggies with the drying rack. With the wringer washer you could have a negative moodlet for pinching your fingers in the wringer and with the drumi washer you could get a tired or bored moodlet since you power it by pushing a petal to make it work. With the outhouse you could have a, it stinks moodlet and you could have a positive recycle moodlet with the compost toilet. These are just some ideas though! I’m excited for whatever you make and I’m looking forward to being able to use the off the grid trait and actually enjoy it LOL!

I think this is a Great idea Brazen Lotus! I'm so excited and I can't wait till you make it! I was so frustrated and disappointed at how glitched up the off the grid trait was!

I want to be able to empty and refill the laundry tub (as well as clean sinks and showers). Wells or cisterns for rainwater capture could maybe help with that problem. I also agree with Lgr that it makes no sense to be able to cook single servings with gas, but not to be able to bake simple things (like bread and cookies) in a gas oven.

Susan Bauman

I am pretty sure they already cool they just don’t run off the grid. This was added with the patch

I wonder if you could make the laundry tub into a toddler tub? If the wash board was out a toddler should fit!!

What's annoying me most about the off-the-grid trait is the inability to clean dirty sinks etc. A water tank or well would be amazing. Simsontherope made an awesome post about what would be great here... https://simsontherope.tumblr.com/post/185932583266/sorry-for-the-lack-of-new-or-new-content-but-its

An animated ceiling fan that works as a seasons thermostat (make it cooler) :) And some sort of campfire that works as a grill (I dislike the barrel grill from Jungle Adventures)

Possibly a satellite that enables you to have internet, possibly adding functionality to either the GTW Science Satellite or the Strangerville Deco Satellite. As for recipes, I think just having the ingredients makes sense (because it's a long way from the store), also Zilrea, what mod are you talking about, could you possibly provide a link.

I've been playing with this new lot trait in Sulani. I made all the lots except the bar and the wreck (turned it in a national park) off the grid. I moved a sim onto the lot that's a private island. So far, she's happy. She has loves outdoors, good, child of the island trait and the beach aspiration, plus is in the conservationist career. I thought I'd been using the shower that comes w/Island Living, but when I tried to have her shower, it said "plumbing doesn't work." I'd also like to see a water tank because people do use water catchment systems and gravity fed plumbing. I'd also like to see a tub that's off the grid, specifically the crafted one, the SV (like the idea for tub only), and the Princess Cordelia (for a high end one). For recipes, personally I would like them to need to utilize what has been grown/raised/harvested, fished or purchased at produce/fish stalls. Recipes I'd like: -Whole grain bread (could require honey) -Bean soup (black beans, any herb) -Applesauce and pear sauce (I know they can grab applesauce out of the fridge) -Fruit pies -More MRE-backpacking-dehydrated type food, maybe dehydrated eggs, lasagna--have to heat water and cook on wood stove or over campfire or on the grill?

If it's possible, I'd love to see a tub only version of the tub/shower from strangerville that works off the grid. I'd especially like to see a well/water pump and solar panel that allow you to use some plumbing/electricity but I'm not sure that's possible. Also adding "otg" to the name of items that work off the grid to make them searchable would be super useful. As for recipes - sandwiches canned beans/spaghetti-os/canned tuna salad campfire foods like hot dogs and marshmallows Peanut butter and crackers baked potato/baked sweet potat

I get tense moodlets in Sulani too. I think this lot trait was supposed to work with the new aspiration and reward trait. If you get the 'Laid-Back" trait from the beach life aspiration those tense moodlets won't affect you and Off-The-Grid living is easier. I think I want to expand on that with compatible recipes and making more objects compatible to makeup for some of the gaps in gameplay.

I have made a doc about all the things I need changed. There is already a mod for the lights so I wouldn’t focus there 💜 https://docs.google.com/document/d/1BDeR7H1hI3YHncxQD9hBMlERk67O1qVEIrztwFDSi0s
