2025-02-07 15:52:23 +0000 UTCI've worked remote since ~2000 with a handful of years [~3] where I commuted to an office. I had rarely seen the problem I'm seeing now. Workers are just not engaged like they used to be which means either they're working multiple jobs at once or they are distracted and way less productive because of it. IMO management is slacking off and processes like agile aren't helping keep workers in check as the people managers become more and more disconnected from the actual work. I saw it right away when I switched to a new team at the start of 2023. I couldn't believe it when one of the contractors would consistently show up late for morning standups, always with some excuse as to why they were late. And since the people manager was rarely on the call, there was no real recourse. I would have cut the contractor after 3 months. The trend is really disturbing. Productivity is the measure by which you can gauge if an employee is double or triple dipping. Doesn't help if the team lead is also consistently disengaged as it's probably the case then that everyone's in on it except the real producers, who end up jumping ship when having to carry the rest of the team.
