Grrl Power #1324 - Were's there brown hare

Thank you for the support! You guys are awesome!

Sydney's never more ADHD than when she gets to question supers/weres/mages/cryptids/aliens about themselves. I would say any non-human, but supers are human, and if she found herself trapped in a room with an honest to god ninja he might wind up trying to use the ancient "Chew-Through-a-Wall Jutsu" to escape.

If she was on a blind date with someone who turned out to be an alien cyborg demon mage, (who wasn't Dabbler) they wouldn't be able to accuse her of not showing an interest. Of course it would really be more of a general "what's your people's deal" interest than "what's your deal." At least at first. Someone could pivot her to a personal tale of what it was like fighting in the Demon Foreign Legion.

When weres first transform, it's usually a very Stan Winston-esque biological thing with a lot of stretching bones and rolling around on the floor while the magic "in-betweens" the human body with the hybrid one. It would normally be rather unpleasant or downright painful, but the lycanthropy symbiote virus will flood the brain with magical serotonin, dopamine, and lycotophine, which I totally just made up, but let's just pretend it makes the new were all beast happy and instinctual for a while. (Shifting during sex is definitely a thing.) They're usually stuck like that for a while, and some don't even notice while they gradually transition to full beast form, caught up in all the new sensations and instincts and sounds and scents they experience.

Slam is a Patreon camo character. More about her on the next page, as you might imagine.

I mean...heck, it might! She doesn't have *much* arm hair in her human form, though.

Merle Blue

Is the normal page down for anyone else. I'm getting a cert error on Chrome for grrlpowercomic.com. Error code: net::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID

Crim2582

Normal tattoos yes, but this is fantasy, who says that hair can't take on the colour of the owner's morphic signature

Martin Croft

Another comic I read just used "ENFUR" for a werewolf transformation (along with Muppet references) and I'm there for it.

Kevin Wright

I mean, even just a larger version of that panel would be great. That little quivering tail is just beyond cute. Edit: when I see larger, I mean more butt, obviously.

Kevin Wright

For true pedancy there's the alternate explanation for lycanthropy, that they are wolves who decided to be part-time humans via magic. I first heard about this in What Good is a Glass Dagger by Larry Niven. Though there are historical antecedents - IIRC the kitsune was supposed to be a fox that lived long enough to get multiple tails and eventually got smart enough to assume human form. If that's the case, they should probably be called "wolfwere" or "wolfwif". Assuming of course that you're naming someone who has alternate forms as a human and a wolf. It gets complicated when other animals get into the mix. What about a rabbit that becomes a wolf?

Mark Magagna

Useful for fine manipulation, but there are reasons for most animals to use bones in their limbs. Muscle needs a rigid framework to get leverage from. Hydraulic action also needs a base to push from. An arm that becomes a tentacle without changing its diameter would lose a lot of strength as a result. Of course magic/superpowers/psionics can "explain" why that doesn't happen.

Mark Magagna

Possibly a new vote incentive/Patreon?

Mark Magagna

My impression for human tattoos is that either the hair is permanently stunted or else the human in question removes it. I'm not sure which. In either case, the dye is driven as dots into the skin. So the hair shouldn't change color since it isn't dyed.

Mark Magagna

What I'd like to know is does Slam's rainbow tattoo, grow out as rainbow fur.

Martin Croft

"Taking One for The Team"

eddi_TBH

There is no keeping up with Sydney when she's on a roll.

eddi_TBH

No, definitely not evil. It sounds very much like this is her desire (or at least fantasy desire) while rather horned up, so at that point it just becomes regular porn. And I too am somewhat curious to how that plays out.

Eric Loken

I was originally thinking she was moving them without paying any attention, but that didn't sound right, and also *extremely* dangerous to others, so I settled on her just having them hang around while she chats and has her coffee (or whatever it is).

Eric Loken

I can't tell if Sydney is moving those i-beams very quickly (a new set each panel) very slowly (can see them inching along, feels slow compared to the dialog) or if she is just chatting while holding them since she isn't sure where to set them during her break.

Jared Kolbly

That actually makes a lot of sense given the stereotypes about rabbit breeding frequency. Combine that with the fact that humans are technically always in heat and it would result in whatever changes in that regard being less noticeable for her than they might otherwise be.

Jacob Bissey

Technically speaking humans are always in heat, so while there is likely some kind of cycle that results in heightened sexual arousal for certain periods, it probably isn't overwhelming the way it is for animals, and thus likely wouldn't be recognized as a "heat" by someone who doesn't know what the word actually refers to, or at least, not any more than being particularly horny some days normally would be.

Jacob Bissey

Yeah, my LARP character has a tentacle instead of an arm for a variety of reasons and developed a custom spell to temporarily turn arms into tentacles. It has been surprisingly difficult to convince anyone of the practical applications, which mostly involve gripping things, and develop a market for it. Personally I think that's a result of the game runners not getting how useful they would be, because the number of NPCs I've pitched my spell to and not had a single one even see potential outside of the magical sex shop that helped me develop it in the first place is frankly unrealistic. Like, all it should take is a single practical demonstration of how tentacles make gripping and carrying things that are hard to grip and carry with hands for the use in a variety of fields to be evident.

Jacob Bissey

Am I evil to want to watch the rest of that "no pants" fantasy?

Edward Justice

Enfuzzen.

Hugh Eckert

It's really good when you need to apply percussive maintenance on a recalcitrant machine.

Andrew Diseker

It can make a rather good blunt force trauma tool when needed.

Anton Schleef

That's one of the things tentacles are really good for, if they've got the strength for it.

Anton Schleef

First I thought "Slam" was an interjection akin to "Boo-ya."

Stephen Gilberg

I live for these of moments in this comic. Just Sydney hanging out, being Sydney and geeking (and ADHDing) out about cool superhero/mage/sci-fi stuff. I really want to have her get captured by the xenovarchy and the guys that detected her Aetherium Causeway, and she just drowns them in questions instead of answering anything, kind of like a reverse version of what happened with the mask guys in New York XD

Playwars

Sometimes, somebody just needs to carry around a big wrench

Merle Blue

Today's strip totally made my day!!

Merle Blue

> If she was on a blind date with someone who turned out to be an alien cyborg demon mage, (who wasn’t Dabbler) Man, now I want to see Sydney on a date with Dabbler...

Shadracht

Cool seeing the hentorb doing construction.

BJ

I thought we already had a gadget based character a while back

Enigma42

Useless trivia: there is no such thing as a "lady were" because of Old English. Let me elaborate: A werewolf is always male, because "werewolf" means "male manwolf". "Man" used to be the gender-neutral term for people; a male man is a werman, and a female man, a wifman (which is where "woman" comes from btw). So the word for a female manwolf is "wifwolf". Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Carlos

So Slam is if Gidget from Rescue Rangers was human?

Miyaa

Now that's is a big pocking wrench. Man, took me a minute to remember where that character came from... the armorer in the Empire of Man series by David Webber and John Ringo. Good stuff.

Person

NO heat? I have a certain patreon drawing of her, Pixel, and the girl with the book as my wallpaper that implies otherwise lol. Also, please more Pixel pin-ups! Or Sydney or Krona, I'm not picky. I like the smaller ladies.

Mike

"Come on and SLAM! And welcome to the JAM!!!" Look, someone had to say it.

You_With_The_Face

Rabbits don't go into heat AT ALL. ...they do ovulate every time they mate, if I have this right.

Evil Midnight Lurker

Panel 3 with a modified Lego Movie: " Hey Guys, where are my paaaants?" (Though, pantless, with cute bunny tail is megadorbs! 😍)

Michael Obert

I am worried about anyone using the term "slam" while carrying a big bludgeoning object.

Justaguy

I'm seeing potential for a vote incentive in one of these panels... ; D
