[Empire] 13 – Decisions to be made

It has only been a month since the arrival of the 'Zerg,' who hid upon their massive ship in orbit over the Earth. At this time, the world has fallen into chaos, as nations have risen and fallen overnight, and many nations faced rebellions, including the world's strongest nation, the United States of America.

The Zerg did not mean to cause these issues. Still, many humans blamed them all the same, including one nation by the name of 'North Korea', which, in its arrogance, launched their primitive missiles at the Zerg ship, striking multiple parts of it and causing the vessel to visible writhe and shake before the creature suddenly started to move, its path following a direct course towards North Korea.

Much to many's surprise, with each flap of the flagella at the tail end of the ship, the ship's speed increased massively, to the point that it seemed as if the creature was actively ignoring all the known laws of physics as it passed the sound barrier but made no sonic boom. When it appeared to have reached its location, that being the center of North Korea, the ship seemed to shudder beneath thousands of strange, meaty pods launched from the ship's outer fleshy and chitinious shell down towards the capital of North Korea.

What satellites that lay above in orbit, recorded the carnage the monsters that erupted from the pods that struck the ground did to the capital and the standing military of the North Korean military. Creatures that ranged from as large as dogs to as big as literal tanks.

In only a few hours, the Capitol of the Nation was captured, and the Zerg vessel landed.

[Overmind's POV]

I will admit, part of me expected some part of humanity to attack me, but I certainly wasn't expecting nukes, of all things, right off the bat. The first several that hit the hull of the Leviathan ended up destroying a good chunk of the Leviathan's exterior hull and took out a good many of my Zerg, which were sucked out into the atmosphere from the breaches in the hull.

I found this to be the perfect chance to mark my own little slice of territory on the Earth, so I commanded the Leviathan forward, towards the origin of these weapons of destruction, which led me to the northern section of a peninsula connected to the largest land mass of the planet.

It was there that I launched what remained of the combat-capable Zerg aboard via the drop pods before sending the Brood Mothers along with them. Each was to command their own 'division' and conquer this 'nation' in every direction.

Myself? I would take the Capitol once the Spawning Pools have hatched enough Zerg for me to take it. It would take no longer than two or three hours, but by that time, I estimated that the Brood Mothers would have completed their goals. I made sure to direct them not to harm any 'Civilians,' which would be the humans without any weapons and not attacking them.

Not even an hour into our improvised invasion, I had to add a few more clauses to the 'civilian' policy, to include surrendering soldiers who would become POWs, and not to harm any humans, only acting to defend themselves or others.

When I was ready, I had a few thousand Zerglings, a few hundred Hydralisks, a dozen Ultralisks, and a few dozen Mutalisks, and was ready to storm their capital. With a single thought, the remaining drop pods were released down onto the nation's capital.

[Officer Kang, of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea]

Kang was a simple man, one who was lucky enough to have been given the option to become an officer after a few years of service in the army and given a particularly cushy life compared to most others living in the country.

Ever since the great famine of 2060, twelve years prior, many of the poorer of the country passed due to starvation, which led to a new disease that spread across the low class that didnt get cured, despite the ease of making a vacine for the disease, which has led to the loss of a few million people, more than sixty percent of the country's population.

With all of the deaths, the country then had enough food for everyone. However, there were still massive issues with starvation and hunger, which led to Kang deciding to risk it and apply for the military, which had better benefits than the average citizen. While the food was not much better, Kang did find that they were given more food.

Sure, as a basic infantryman, he had to deal with some combat, due to the alliance between North Korea and Russia, but in the end, after it was all over and he lived long enough to return to North Korea, he was given the rank of officer and was moved to the capital.

Now his days were rather bengine compared to what he used to deal with, with most days going like this: Wake up, eat, train some soldiers, do some paperwork, eat, sleep, or that was, until the rumors of aliens appearing in the world, but Kang ignored those rumors as hearsay and foolish rumors.

Then the attack started. The sky suddenly darkened above the Capitol as a giant fleshy...creature appeared, before expelling hundreds of tindy dots that rained down over the city, these dots instead turning out to be strange round pink and meaty pods with 'tails' flapping in the air above them before they crashed into buildings, streets, and even some unfortunate people.

What crawled out from the craters were straight from Kang's nightmares.

Monsters the size of dogs with razor-sharp teeth, mandibles, two short wings on their backs, and red skin that could shrug off blunt trauma, when Kang and the other soldiers began shooting at the monsters, their fear only skyrocketed further when they saw their firearms hardly did anything to the monsters, with only direct headshots killing the monsters, as even after losing the back half of their bodies, the monsters continued crawling forward to attack all in their paths.

Then came even more monsters.

Monsters that shot forth these huge spikes from their mouths that were essentially spears that could easily pierce through everything, including a few inches of steel.

Then came the worst monsters of all.

Monsters as big as buildings with tremendous strength and massive mandibles that could cleave through concrete and wrench through steel.

...

The full might of the military was no match for the tens of thousands of monsters that attacked. Within a few hours, the military was wiped out across the entire nation, as every city, every town, every village, and every military base was attacked over the course of the day by every single Zerg available. However, the Zerg incurred significant losses, having lost a few Ultralisks to direct strikes by ballistic missiles, and countless Zerglings who mindlessly charged into every defensive line the North Koreans set up and through every trap.

The Overmind didn't punish the Brood Mothers for their reckless tactics; instead, she guided them, showed them a better way, and all she asked was for the Brood Mothers to be smarter, for they would need to conserve their strength for the coming war against the Reapers.

With the hostile takeover complete, the Overmind, controlling the Envoy, called forth all of the nations in the world to France to answer for their aggression and the consequences of their actions and the actions of humanity.
