Some exploratory sketches for a dnd character i didnt end up getting around to playing - I've been meaning to play a triton-esque character, and the design challenge was quite interesting- how do you balance a highly colored base character with thematic intrigue and then leave enough room for colorful clothing? (one consideration was to play them as a bard-)
Also how far do you push the inhuman elements while still maintaining the ability for expressions? Usually I land on a character shape that feels right rather quick, but I imagine if I were to start fresh, I'd still be exploring a lot of options before settling on anything.
now looking back on it, I've come to learn the importance of one other aspect for designing characters- and that is the question of how easy are they to repeat? lmao I wouldve needed to unify the clothing fit, or simplify the clothing colors, and just lean into the skin patterns being the main source of color and detail.
