Ellipse stuff - Background

Small update: I apologize for the inactivity during the last 2 weeks, I was away for the Annecy Film Festival and had hoped to be able to post during it, but I didn't take into account the possibility that we would have such crappy wifi that it barely can load text, let alone upload images :'I I tried sending an email with a 9 mb file and it took a full 20 minutes (I kept track).

Alas, during Annecy I caught a cold too (which seems logical after walking around the first 3 days being drenched in rain, oops) and haven't actually been able to do half the things I planned to. Thus I spent the last week recovering, just doing the minimum amount of effort - today is the first day I actually had energy enough after school to at least unpack my graphic tablet.
This and the next week have the last deadlines for this semester, so I'm scrambling to the finish line. My first year of animation is coming to a close! But there's still some work to do until then - in the mean time:

Here's another piece I did for Background class, the sole requirement being something ellipse-shaped. I spent quite some time just on sketching around, so the latter parts of the 4 hours were a bit rushed to be honest. In terms of setting, the first 2 thumbnails seem actually much more interesting design-wise, but I just really loved the lighting/mood of the third one, I'm a sucker for mysterious moods - though I think some of it got lost during the coloring?
