After a bit of a break in 2021, I’m back on the character design train. Here’s a warm up–practicing with my new D&D character, Dzoldzaya Ögedei Chuluunbatar, or just Dzaya.
-------------------
Race: Human | Age: 34 | Gender: Female | Alignment: Chaotic Neutral | Class/job: Barbarian
Dzaya was born the eldest of six girls in northern Tashkir, in a land of endless plains and sky. She comes from a tribe of steppe nomads known as the Uruji’uts: expert horsemen, hunters and herders, and warriors feared by those who reside in cities behind fortress walls in the south.

I’ll be posting the process up soon, but in the meantime, here is the lineart that I started out with, and then the “colored flats” (quotes because they’re not truly flat colors… definitely used some shading and blending here).
I've been consistently in love with the designs, colors, and languages of Central Asia/Mongolia/Turkey/etc. etc., -- there's just such a wealth of cultures and histories, so of course I drew my inspiration from that diverse region. One day I'd like to travel there rather than just learning about it in books and whatnot.
Have you guys done D&D or some ttrpg before? This is actually my first time! Would be fun to hear about your characters!
