I messed up the scales a bit in Kaylee 16!

Kayla spends most of the chapter at a little over 200 feet when she should be closer to 300 feet, and Kaylee is about 1200 feet tall when she should be over 1500 feet. That sounds like a big difference, but in terms of how they look it's actually pretty subtle, especially with Kaylee... which is why I was able to render most of the comic without noticing, and nobody called it from looking at the previews! I think what happened is that the sizes in the first preview pic were just eye-balled and not actually calculated properly, and I planned on actually figuring out the proper sizes later... and then I forgot that I needed to calculate the true sizes and just barrelled ahead.
I might toss in a vague throwaway line or two to acknowledge it and explain it away, but beyond that I don't think I'll make a big deal about it. Honestly it's probably a mistake to even call attention to it, because I'm pretty confident that if I just didn't point it out than literally nobody would notice. How do I know that? Because I've messed up the scales more than that on several occasions in the past, and most of the time not a single person asked about it. I usually try to be consistent, but I'm generally pretty disorganized and bad at math, and it can get confusing when you're going back and forth between scenes where the scale is 100% to scenes where it's 5% or 3% or 7% or 10% or anywhere in between.
I'm not alone in this! A lot of movies with giant characters are very inconsistent with character scales, and not just from movie to movie but also scene to scene and shot to shot. Hardly anyone noticed that the 2014 Godzilla movie had him doubling or even quadrupling in size from one scene to another. (The subsequent movies have been better about size consistency, though.) Older movies like King Kong and Attack of the 50-foot woman had their size changing 5-10x from shot to shot. So... I'm in good company, at least! I'll try not to repeat the same mistake again, and the perfectionist in me is driven crazy by this kind of stuff, but I'm not going to lose too much sleep over it.

2022-01-25 21:01:14 +0000 UTCNgl, I know I’m most likely in the minority here but it’s not too important for every chapter to have a growth scene. In fact I’d prefer if it didn’t. But I know that’s what a lot of people look forward to that so I’m not complaining lol. Plus I know you’re trying to reach the ending of the story and no growth scenes would only hold that up 😂

I added it at the last minute, after realizing that it was almost the end of the month and I'd already rendered a full chapter and forgot to give her a growth scene; she grows within the growth montage but her scale after it is exactly the same as her scale before it. In retrospect I probably should have just added a growth scene at the very end of the chapter, and I'm not sure why I didn't just do that. That was the only time I've done something like that knowingly, sorry I tricked everyone! But the fact that nobody noticed kind of proves my point on this.
