Chapter 53: Chimera Cull

Baela

Tenth Moon

Comments

They'd probably make one lol.

Tertius711

2) We shall see. 3) Precisely.

Tertius711

I feel like there's a hymn somewhere in there

Robin

2) I do hope they manage to snag a dragon, just for the chaos 3) Yeah, avoid everything that could hurt a dragon makes a ton of sense

Robin

2) Ah I see what you mean. The Arryn-Mootons are currently not relevant very much to the story but I do plan for one or two more interludes that will wrap up their plotlines for the most part before the finale. 3) Idk. Even if they do work they'd be debatably effective given how even regular scorpions aren't. And if they are effective, do they really want to make them?

Tertius711

3) Don't know. Given it's fantasy world it could work maybe :)

Maciek

2) I meant Saera and this 2nd sister who married Arryn. Though you're right since they aren't Targs anymore :)

Glad you liked it! The Velaryon State is inherently capitalist not mercantilist so they are far more resistant to inflation due to strong financial institutions and a massive economy. Furthermore House Velaryon holds much of its gold in massive reserves and feeds it carefully into the economy to prevent inflation. Let's see if that VS gift works out eh? Stay tuned to see what that last sentence means. 1) We don't get Targaryen-focused POVs as much so some of this is lacking but yes they are. They are further strengthening their influence in Westeros and combating the Velaryons' while trying to get their spies into the Velaryon domains and cultivate stronger relations with Pentos and Volantis against the Velaryons. Larys Strong however cannot possibly measure up to Mysaria and the Conches so their espionage in the fanatically loyal Velaryon domains is not going as well as the Conches in theirs. As for expeditions, they continue to patron the SSC which is exploring the south and west. They don't really have any interest in the north and frankly Westeros (and the Summer Islands) have an abundance of resources and only really lack development and to properly develop the continent efficiently and without fears of empowering vassals, the Targaryens have to centralize it which is tougher for them than it is the Velaryons. 2) Not sure what you mean about this? What side branches? Only real branch is Daemon and Gael's family and Gael just had a POV in 51. 3) That I am wondering because do those actually work or are they movie creative license stuff? In any case the Velaryons have very negative views on creating weapons that can be used on dragons since they also ride dragons.

Oh yeah dude was afraid he was breaking the Zaldilaros Creed and ended up feeding into it more than ever. Next thing you know them cultists gonna be like on each of those seven days Jacaerys Zaldilaros was speaking to one of the Seven or something lol.

Tertius711

I like the part where Jace was unconscious for 7 days before he woke from the Red death to lead his men against the horde of abominations in the name of the 7. The cult of Zaldilaros will be gaining a lot traction after this.

Well, that was nice conclusion to whole Basilisk Isles Arc :) Overally 4,000 casualties during whole campaign doesn't seem much, given enormous benefits received. Though wouldn't such influx of gold cause big increase of inflation? But the biggest benefit was fact that Jace and Baela were finally able to solve their problems. Idea of bribing Jaehaerys with valyrian steel sword seem to have some merits, though I wouldn't hold my breath. On the other hand, if that succeded Daemon's face would be quite memorable....... Last words seems to look like prelude to the beginning of the end ;) In the end, three questions for author: 1. Are Targaryens doing ANYTHING to combat increasing Velaryons position besides complaining, setting more rrasonable members of family agains them and waiting for more dragons to grow? Any diplomacy attempts to Essos, spying on Velaryon domain, incentives to attack velaryon ships, hell maybe even some expeditions to West and North to look for new lands and resources? 2. it's been a long time since we've seen side branches of Targ family. Will they appear some more in future ? 3. I've been thinking about some new possible weapons introductions. Putting aside gunpowder, I've thought about sth else. Mainly, multiple-shot bolt throwers like those mounted on chariots in "Hobbit: Battle of Five Armies" movie. Would be possible for Velaryon industry to produce sth like that? Cause if possible and scaled up, it could be nice weapon against dragons ;)

We shall see! Stay tuned!

Tertius711

Coming up the wedding of Laena & Daeron??

Felipe Astur

Probably half at least. They were the fearless vanguard after all.

Tertius711

Of the 4k casualties how many were Unsullied?
