The Sex Workers Parade

With Pride Parades (and month!) upon us, I realize how much I long for a Sex Workers Parade. For twenty years as an erotic muse, educator and bodyworker, I have hidden it, and struggled to make my life presentable. When asked at a party, “What do you do?” I invent respectable answers like ‘relationship coach.’
Here’s my fantasy…
The Sex Workers Parade
Not sure what our flag would look like
Or what my sign would say
But…
I step out of a quiet box
I’m in a public street telling you who I am
I’m being seen.
Will others join me?
Will they cheer from the sidelines
….or not?
Will the police join me?
Firemen, the Mayor?
Will kids wave flags?
Can I give out candy
And shake hands?
Will the Sex Workers Parade become ‘corporate’?
And would they really mean it?
Will it turn into a whole month of celebration like Pride did?
Will my life change? Will yours?
